This Weekend's Wildcard is Blackstar by David Bowie. This is the opening and title track off of his album by the same name which was just released yesterday. Bowie released it yesterday because it was his 69th birthday. This song clocks in at just under 10 minutes making it Bowie's second longest song. He cut it under 10 minutes because iTunes doesn't release singles that are longer than 10 minutes.
I haven't had a lot of time to digest this song and video since I just heard it for the first time today. The song was written for the show The Last Panthers and the director of the show directed this video. Throughout the video, Bowie takes three different forms; the introverted, tormented, blind "Button Eyes", the "flamboyant
trickster" in the song's middle section, and the "priest guy" holding
the book embossed with the blackstar (From wikipedia).
Exploring Heavy Metal and all its glory. Heavy Metal is often misunderstood and thought to be just a bunch of guys banging and screaming when in fact it can be extremely thoughtful, intelligent, and sincere. Expect some throw-down-head-banging, chill mood metal, and gloomy death metal that you're probably not going to hear on the radio. On the weekends we'll mix things up with a Weekend Wildcard and an Easy Like Sunday Morning Track to get you over your hangover!
