Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Milk Lizard by The Dillinger Escape Plan (Guest host Jamie)

Filling in for Scott, today’s Metal Track is Milk Lizard by the one and only The Dillinger Escape Plan. This song is off their 2007 album Ire Works. Ire Works was the only album Gil Sharone recorded drums for Dillinger (Seeing as he was preceded by Chris Pennie and succeeded by Billy Rymer, they seem to have an unending supply of top-notch percussionists) and this is one of my favorite songs he had a hand in writing with them.

Dillinger is most widely known for their breakneck, unrelenting brand of mathy and experimental metal and hardcore along with their acrobatic live performances. However, for anyone who ever questions whether they are nothing but unflinching speed and technicality, their answer comes in the form of a resounding ‘no’ via the handful of more traditionally structured songs DEP has composed over their nearly 20 year career. Milk Lizard proves that, while their technical prowess is among the best, they can groove and write hooks as catchy as anyone out there too.

“Well you thought you'd tear my skin from bone
Just ‘cause it was cold and you needed a coat”
