Today marks 30 years since Cliff Burton was taken from us in a bus accident during the middle of the night in Sweden. The band was on tour for their legendary album Master of Puppets.
Cliff was a creative force within the band and fans are only left to wonder what the band would have been capable of if he was still alive today. His phenomenal writing and bass playing really shine on tracks such as For Whom the Bell Tolls, Orion, and his solo track Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth). He was so good on the bass that when James and Lars first heard him at a show, they went to see who was playing guitar only to find out that the sound was coming from Burton's bass.
In honor of Cliff, today's Metal Track is a collection of bass solos taken from the 1987 VHS Cliff 'Em All. My brother probably has this VHS sitting around his house somewhere. I believe it was later released on DVD.
RIP Cliff!
Exploring Heavy Metal and all its glory. Heavy Metal is often misunderstood and thought to be just a bunch of guys banging and screaming when in fact it can be extremely thoughtful, intelligent, and sincere. Expect some throw-down-head-banging, chill mood metal, and gloomy death metal that you're probably not going to hear on the radio. On the weekends we'll mix things up with a Weekend Wildcard and an Easy Like Sunday Morning Track to get you over your hangover!
