Today's Metal Track is a classic from Diamond Head. This is Helpless off of their debut 1980 album Lightning to the Nations. Metallica must have really been influenced by this album because they covered 4 of its 7 songs. They originally covered it as the opening track off on the $5.98 E.P. Garage Days Re-Revisited which came out in 1987 and later on their 2001 double album Garage Inc.
Some may say that Metallica benefited from the work of Diamond Head. While they did, I read a recent article in Guitar World where Diamond Head members are grateful and still receiving royalties which allow them to make music now.
Here is the Metallica version which I think destroys. I love the tone of the guitars and Hetfield's voice is fantastic.
Exploring Heavy Metal and all its glory. Heavy Metal is often misunderstood and thought to be just a bunch of guys banging and screaming when in fact it can be extremely thoughtful, intelligent, and sincere. Expect some throw-down-head-banging, chill mood metal, and gloomy death metal that you're probably not going to hear on the radio. On the weekends we'll mix things up with a Weekend Wildcard and an Easy Like Sunday Morning Track to get you over your hangover!
