This Weekend's Wildcard is Mr. Blue Sky by Electric Light Orchestra. This is off of ELO's 1977 double album Out of the Blue which was one of the most commercially successful albums released by the band.
Frontman Jeff Lynne locked himself in a wooden cabin in the Swiss Alps to write the album. After not coming up with anything for 2 weeks the sun shone in and he saw the beautiful Alp. He then wrote Mr. Blue Sky and 13 other songs over the next two weeks.
The song was played as a wake-up call to astronaut Christopher Ferguson on Day 3 of STS-135, the final mission of Space Shuttle Atlantis.
Exploring Heavy Metal and all its glory. Heavy Metal is often misunderstood and thought to be just a bunch of guys banging and screaming when in fact it can be extremely thoughtful, intelligent, and sincere. Expect some throw-down-head-banging, chill mood metal, and gloomy death metal that you're probably not going to hear on the radio. On the weekends we'll mix things up with a Weekend Wildcard and an Easy Like Sunday Morning Track to get you over your hangover!
