Today's Metal Track is Lateralus by Tool. It is the title track off of their 2001 album Lateralus. This song is about two realms in life; physical and spiritual.
It's about expanding your mind into the unknown while being careful not to go too far into the spiritual realm and completely separate the body from the mind. Instead try "to swing on the spiral of our divinity and still be a human" and to push the boundaries while keeping the two connected.
"We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been.
Spiral out. Keep going, going"
Another cool note about this song is the use of the Fibonacci sequence (1,1,2,3,5,8...) in the opening lyrics. Maynard pauses between words to separate them based on the number of syllables.
Black | then | white are | all I see | in my infancy | red and yellow then came to be
Exploring Heavy Metal and all its glory. Heavy Metal is often misunderstood and thought to be just a bunch of guys banging and screaming when in fact it can be extremely thoughtful, intelligent, and sincere. Expect some throw-down-head-banging, chill mood metal, and gloomy death metal that you're probably not going to hear on the radio. On the weekends we'll mix things up with a Weekend Wildcard and an Easy Like Sunday Morning Track to get you over your hangover!
