Today's Metal Track is The Pot by Tool. This is off of their 2006 album 10,000 Days. Unfortunately, it is their most recent album. Hopefully we will get a new one this year.
The title "The Pot" is a double entendre referencing marijuana as well as the phrase "The pot calling the kettle black." The song calls out hypocrites who judge stoners but have their own faults. It also speaks of the injustice of these minor offenders being sent to prison. Maynard uses numerous references to a kangaroo court which is defined as a "mock court in which the principles of law and justice are disregarded or perverted".
"Soapbox, house of cards, and glass
So don't go tossin' your stones around"
...
"Who are you to wave your finger?
So full of it
Eyeballs deep in muddy waters
F'ing hypocrite
Liar, lawyer, mirror show me
What's the difference?
Kangaroo done hung the guilty with the innocent"
Exploring Heavy Metal and all its glory. Heavy Metal is often misunderstood and thought to be just a bunch of guys banging and screaming when in fact it can be extremely thoughtful, intelligent, and sincere. Expect some throw-down-head-banging, chill mood metal, and gloomy death metal that you're probably not going to hear on the radio. On the weekends we'll mix things up with a Weekend Wildcard and an Easy Like Sunday Morning Track to get you over your hangover!
