This Weekend's Wildcard is my favorite Guns N' Roses song of all time. This is Rocket Queen off of their 1987 debut album Appetite for Destruction. Axl's vocal performance in the second of the song is the highlight of the song. This is a fan made video; they never released an official video.
Axl Rose wrote the lyrics for "Barbi (Rocket Queen) Von Greif" as she is credited on the album. She was gonna have a band called Rocket Queen and Axl was infatuated with her. He said that she kept him alive for awhile. The message at the end of the song is directed towards her.
The remaining backstory on this track is pretty crazy and epitomizes the life style of 80s bands on the Sunset Strip. Let's just say Adrianna Smith, Steven Adler's former girlfriend, provided some guest background vocals starting around the 2:20 mark in the song with a little help from Axl.
Backstory on the 'background vocals' at the 5:25 mark:
Exploring Heavy Metal and all its glory. Heavy Metal is often misunderstood and thought to be just a bunch of guys banging and screaming when in fact it can be extremely thoughtful, intelligent, and sincere. Expect some throw-down-head-banging, chill mood metal, and gloomy death metal that you're probably not going to hear on the radio. On the weekends we'll mix things up with a Weekend Wildcard and an Easy Like Sunday Morning Track to get you over your hangover!
