Today's Metal Track is Am I Evil by Diamond Head. This is off of the English band's 1980 debut album Lightning to the Nations. It was popular in UK metal circles but later gain international popularity when Metallica covered it and released as a B-side to their 1984 single Creeping Death.
I first heard this song on the 1988 re-released version of Metallica's debut album Kill 'Em All which I still have on cassette. If you buy the album now, it doesn't include this cover or their cover of Blitzkrieg.
During the Big 4 concert back in 2010, members of Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax closed the show with a partial performance of this song. I remember laughing at Joey Belladonna butchering the lyrics.
Here is Metallica's cover:
And here is the Big 4 cover:
Exploring Heavy Metal and all its glory. Heavy Metal is often misunderstood and thought to be just a bunch of guys banging and screaming when in fact it can be extremely thoughtful, intelligent, and sincere. Expect some throw-down-head-banging, chill mood metal, and gloomy death metal that you're probably not going to hear on the radio. On the weekends we'll mix things up with a Weekend Wildcard and an Easy Like Sunday Morning Track to get you over your hangover!
