Scott's Instrumental Metal Track of the Day - Inferno by Marty Friedman

Today's Instrumental Metal Track is brought to you by former Megadeth guitarist, Marty Friedman. This is the title track off of his most recent album Inferno which was released earlier this year.

As for the odd video, apparently it is paying homage to "Zenryokusaka" ("Full Power Hill"), a popular TV show in Japan (where Friedman currently lives). Every week, the five-minute program features a girl running up a hill -- each week a different girl, each week a different hill.

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track - Baby I love Your Way by Peter Frampton

Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is brought to you by Peter Frampton. This song was originally released on his 1975 album Frampton. However, this version is off of his breakthrough double live album Frampton Comes Alive! in 1976. Frampton's previous 4 album did not garner much attention but his live album became one of the best selling live albums in the U.S.

In 1994, Big Mountain recorded a reggae version of  the song that was featured in the movie Reality Bites. I haven't seen the movie but apparently Ben Stiller's character explains the origins of Frampton's song.

Weekend Wildcard - China Grove by The Doobie Brothers

This Weekend's Wildcard is brought to you by the The Doobie Brothers. This comes off of their 1973 album The Captain and Me and is one of their most famous songs. This song is mainly a fictional account portraying China Grove as a Texas version of Chinatown. Funny thing is, they mention the Samurai, who are Japanese not Chinese.

The first thing I think of now when I hear this song is Squidbillies. "Damn dem Doobies and they Chinese Grove!"

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - The Grand Conjuration by Opeth

Today's Metal Track is brought you by the mighty Opeth. This is off of the their 2005 album Ghost Reveries. This song is a great demonstration of Opeth's musicianship with super tight riffs, great solos, tempo changes, and a mixture of clean vocals and growls.

These guys are an example of everything that is right with music (Basically the opposite of Nickelback). Last year, Mikael Akerfeldt was awarded the SKAP (Swedish Composers and Lyricists) award which is given to Swedish musicians whom have significantly influenced Swedish music and culture.

Mikael stated "Through time I've been handed some awards and whatnot, but this one resonates more in me personally. No glitz and glamour, just some appreciation for what we and I do musically. It's well appreciated! Thanks - Stay Metal, Stay Brutal \m/"

We will Mikael, we will!!

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Drowning in a Daydream by Corrosion of Conformity

Today's Metal Track is brought to you by Corrosion of Conformity. This is off their 1996 album Wiseblood. This song has a great groove and some great vocals by Pepper Keenan. I don't know how you couldn't like this song. This song was nominated for best metal performance at the 1998 Grammys.

NOW you get so high but you still can't fly
And you wonder if you're really where you want to be
Cause the sun don't rise if you close your eyes
So you're sinking low, so I thought you'd like to know

Like me, you're drowning in a daydream

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Save Me by Killswitch Engage

Today's Metal Track is brought to you by Killswitch Engage. This is off of their 2009 self-titled album. It was actually their second self-titled album with the first being their debut album in 2000.

This video depicts the band members traveling to Mars (by way of the "road to Mars") to save Howard who was abducted when he "just wanted to go fishing". The video kind of takes on a deeper meaning when you consider the fact that Howard had to leave the band a couple of years later due to suffering from anxiety and type 2 diabetes.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Electric Crown by Testament

Today's Metal Track is brought to you by Testament. This is off of their 1992 album The Ritual. This was the last album to feature drummer Louie Clemente and the last to feature guitarist Alex Skolnick until he returned in 2005.

As I sit here typing this out, Jack is headbanging during the middle of his dinner. So I say it passes the test!

Scott's Instrumental Track of the Day (Guest Host Travis) - 19 In 3's by Beastie Boys

It's time for the Track of the Day again! I talked Scott into letting me do this last one, since it's Monday... or as most people call it - Instrumental Monday! I don't get it, but I'll go with it!

From the jump, I knew it was INSTRUMENTAL that I do a Beastie Boys song, HAHAHAHHA GET IT!!!!1 Because they'got some great instrumentals and remixes of instrumentals and instrumentals of remixes. At first, I was gonna use an instrumental of the "Free Zone" mix of "Root Down" off the "Root Down" EP....

But, upon further inspection, the version I had seemed to be unauthorized, and the person messed up while looping it. Instead, I present to you "In 3's" from the 1992 album "Check Your Head." This is also on "The In Sound From Way Out," but they cut out the beginning, so I used the original.

FUN FACT: If you do fun facts every day, you start to slip up and use inferior facts ... and it kills your brand. See you guys next time!

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track (Guest Host Travis) - The Noose by A Perfect Circle

I'm still here covering for Scott on the track of the day thing. More like track of the end of the day. We're gonna do an "Easy like Sunday Morning" track on Sunday night!

Tonight's track is "The Noose," from A Perfect Circle. For the few who haven't heard of them, they are that other band that Maynard James Keenan was in that wasn't Tool.

The track is off their concept album called "The Thirteenth Step." The theme is addiction. The album is very powerful, and I like it a lot. I think anyone who doesn't like APC is insane. Anyway, here's the song that you've been waiting for literally ALL DAY! Oh, I almost forgot...

FUN FACT (short version): "The Thirteenth Step" is almost always a reference to the assholes who go to NA and other 12 step programs with the intention of picking up vulnerable women. It's not a compliment to be called a 13th stepper!

Weekend Wildcard (Guest Host Travis) - My Drinkin Problem by Hank III

Guest hosting for Scott again. I only got one LIKE yesterday, and it was from him. That's like your mom telling you that you're smart. He will be back soon, don't worry.

Since today is the Weekend Wildcard, I thought I'd pick a song from someone who is a bit of a wildcard himself... plus I know how much metal heads generally love country music!!!1 Today's track is from a guy who would really appreciate the idea of the Weekend Wildcard, Mr. Hank Williams III.

Señor Tres, not surprisingly, plays country music (and several variants). He's also played bass for Superjoint Ritual.., and plays drums in a punk(ish) band called Arson Anthem (also with Phil Anselmo). I don't know if they're still around, actually, I wasn't that into it. Also, if you've ever been to one of Hank's shows, you've likely seen Assjack as well at the end of the show. That's the metal band he does sings for. Insane stuff, all of it.

Anyway, the track is called "My Drinkin' Problem," and it is off the album "Straight to Hell" from 2005 or 2006. This is probably the cleanest song on the whole album. Why do I mention that? Cause of the FUN FACT...

FUN FACT: "Straight to Hell" is the first country album required to carry the parental advisory sticker.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day (Guest Host Travis) - Skeletons of Society by Slayer

It's me again, your favorite guest host! Scott Brame asked if I'd like to hold down the fort until Sunday, and I said, "SURE THING PAL". Come back tomorrow to hear what I choose for the "Weekend Wildcard" pick!

Your daily metal track for Friday is from SLAYER, the greatest metal band ever (that isn't Pantera). I chose SLAYER because they can play like crazy. The track I picked, "Skeletons of Society," is evidence of this. It's track 7 off "Seasons in the Abyss," released in late 1990.

The album wasn't a big commercial success or anything, but it BLEEDS EXTREME RIFFS... and hit men listen to it in their walkmans while they are training for their next job. "Skeletons of Society" was the track that got the most play on my tape.

FUN FACT: This album, and many others by SLAYER, were produced at least in part by your favorite rapper's producer. Shout out to Rick Rubin, yo. Prolific.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Fire Above, Ice Below by Agalloch

Today's Metal Track is Brought to you by Agalloch. This is off of their 2006 album Ashes Against the Grain. This folk-metal song is pretty slow overall but is very moving at the same time. The part from 6:45 to 7:30 is fantastic and gives me major chills.

I'm going to see them next Friday at Kings in Raleigh. Should be an outstanding show for any music lover. If you are interested in going, let me know. Tickets are only $15.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Only for the Weak by In Flames

Today's Metal Track is brought to you by the Swedish metal band In Flames. This is off of their 200 album Clayman. Metal Hammer named this song its Top 10 death metal song.

Sell me the infection, it's only for the weak
No need for sympathy, the misery that is me
No need for sympathy, it's only for the weak
On bleeding knees I accept my fate

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - No One Survives by Nekrogoblikon

Today's Metal Track is brought to you by Nekrogobolikon. Whether you like heavy metal or not you should check out this hilarious video. The song is pretty decent but the video is what really makes it.

The band's name stems from their main subject - goblins - and the notorious Necronomicon featured in H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos. This is off of their 2011 album Stench.

Scott's Instrumental Metal Track of the Day - Black Star by Yngwie Malmsteen

Today's Instrumental Metal Track is brought to you by Yngwie Malmsteen. This is the opening track off of his 1984 debut album Rising Force. This album was nominated for Best Rock Instrumental Performance in 1986 and Guitar World named this the greatest shred album of all time in 2009. This particular song doesn't necessarily shred but it is still great.

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track - Hole Hearted by Extreme

Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is brought to you by Extreme. This is the closing track on their 1990 album Extreme II. The lead singer, Gary Cherone, would later join Van Halen for a short period of time that ultimately proved unsuccessful.

Weekend Wildcard - I Want to Be Like You by Louis Prima (Jungle Book)

Jack and I have been watching The Jungle Book a lot lately and I can't decide if I want to start calling him Little Britches or Man Cub.

With that said, this Weekend's Wildcard is brought to you by Louis Prima and The Jungle Book Movie. This song was done specifically for the movie and is one of my favorite scenes in any Disney movie. In this scene, Mowgli has been captured by King Louis because he wants to learn the secret of making fire while Bagheera and Baloo come in for the rescue.

Baloo, vocied by Phil Harris, is also one of my favorite Disney characters and this scene is a great example of why. "I'm gone man, solid gone."

Here is a cool video about the making of the song: http://youtu.be/rV8HrpOu1FA

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Still Counting by Volbeat

Today's Metal Track is brought to you by Volbeat. This is off of their 2008 album Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood. It was also featured as a bonus track on their 2010 album Beyond Hell/Above Heaven which lead to the band's success finally expanding outside of their home county of Denmark.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Prehistoric Dog by Red Fang

Hey Gandalf, nice dress!

Today's Metal Track is brought to you by the stoner metal band Red Fang. This is the opening track off of their 2009 debut self-titled album. There have been a few videos in the past 5 years that have included LARP (Live Action Role Play) with this being one of the earlier ones.

The other two LARP videos that come to mind are Protest the Hero's video for Clarity last year (Which I posted last month) and Mastodon's video for High Road which just debuted yesterday. I wonder if it had something to do with the movie Role Model which came out in 2008.

Can you think of any more LARP videos?

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Sugar by System of a Down

Today's Metal Track is brought to you by System of a Down. This is the first single off of their 1998 debut self-titled album. The band still closes with this song at most of their concerts. While this song was a hit, the band didn't really blow up until their following album Toxicity which was a little more polished and appealed to a broader audience.

The opening scene of the news anchor rant in the video is a reenactment of the 1976 satirical film Network. Due to the controversial nature of the video, it received little airplay. Some channels were forced to only play the video after 10pm.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Ghost Walking by Lamb of God

Today's Metal Track is brought to you by Lamb of God. This is the first single off of their most recent album Resolution which was released in 2012.

This song is about a Vietnam war veteran who had picked up a heroin habit while overseas in order to deal with the stress of combat. When the veteran returned home he has a hard time returning to civilized life and retains his habit.

You lived through hell
Now you're trying to die
The skin is healed
But you're bleeding inside
Shots fired just to numb the pain
There's no one left to save

Scott's Instrumental Metal Track of the Day - Mr. Scary by Dokken

Today's Instrumental Metal Track is brought to you by Dokken. This track is off of their 1987 album Back for the Attack. This song features some great shredding by the famous George Lynch.

This was the band's best selling album reach #13 on the billboard charts. It was also the last one before breaking up in 1989. They eventually reformed in 1993 and have had gone through several line-up changes. I always think of the Squidbillies episode where town folk are trying to keep Dokken from coming to perform and all the fans respond with "But it's a whole new lineup".

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track - The Wind Cries Mary by Jimi Hendrix

Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is brought to you by one of the most influential musicians of all time, Jimi Hendrix. This is off of his 1967 debut album Are You Experienced. The album is considered to be one of the greatest debut albums of all time.

A broom is drearily sweeping
up the broken pieces of yesterday's life.
Somewhere a Queen is weeping,
somewhere a King has no wife.

And the wind it cries Mary

Weekend Wildcard - Let's Groove by Earth Wind & Fire

This Weekend's Wildcard is a catchy tune brought to you by Earth Wind & Fire. This is off of their 1981 album Raise! This video was the first ever video played on the show Video Soul on BET. This song was released not long after the disco era and received some criticism at the time due to the anti-disco movement. However, this song has obviously stood the test of time.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Primo Victoria by Sabaton

In honor of the 70th anniversary of D-Day, today's Metal Track is Primo Victoria by Sabaton. This is the title track off of the Swedish band's 2005 album Primo Victoria. A fan took this song and synched it with Saving Private Ryan footage.

Through the gates of hell
As we make our way to heaven
Through the Nazi lines
Primo victoria

On the 6th of June
On the shores of western Europe 1944
D-day upon us

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Take My Bones Away by Baroness

Today's Metal Track is brought to you by Baroness. This was the first single off of their 2012 double album Yellow & Green. It's a little more accessible than their previous releases mainly because the vocals are cleaner. I still prefer the Blue Record sound overall but this is still a great track.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - What's in You by Black Label Society

Today's Metal Track is brought to you by Black Label Society. This is another one off of their 2005 album Mafia. This is a very simple song that only has 5 different lines used throughout. But it still gets the job done with a solid riff and spirited vocals by Zakk.

Here are the 5 lines:
Step inside this nightmare where I live
The madman roams inside my head

Oh, what's in you now?

Helter skelter running through my veins
Satan's coming on his way

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track - Dreams by Fleetwood Mac

Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is brought to you by Fleetwood Mac. This is the second single released off of their 1977 album Rumors. This album was their most successful album and this song was the bands only US No. 1 hit. Stevie Nicks' vocals in this song are outstanding.

This album was written at time when the band was experiencing very emotional relationship challenges. The drummer was going through a divorce, the bassist and keyboardist were separating from each other, and singer Stevie Nicks and guitarist Lindsey Buckingham were ending their 8 year relationship. Nicks originally wrote this on piano but the band later replaced them with guitar and bass.

It's only me
Who wants to wrap around your dreams and
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?
Dreams of loneliness...
Like a heartbeat drives you mad...
In the stillness of remembering
What you had
And what you lost...
