Weekend Wildcard - Beverly Hills by Weezer

This Weekend's Wildcard is Beverly Hills by Weezer for no reason other than this was playing on the dock when I remembered I needed to post a track today. This is the opening track off of their 2005 album Make Believe.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Brought to the Water by Deafheaven

Today's Metal Track is Brought to the Water by Deafheaven. It is an appropriate song to kick off Memorial Day weekend because I will definitely find myself in the water this weekend. This is the opening track off of their most recent album New Bermuda.

And in case you missed me and the boys jamming to this song in the tub:

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Chemical Warfare by Slayer

Today's Metal Track is Chemical Warfare by Slayer. This is the opening track off of their 1984 EP Haunting the Chapel. Following the success of their 1983 debut album, Show No Mercy, their producer wanted to hurry and put out an EP. They recorded in a studio with no carpet which made it difficult to record the drums because the kit bounced around everywhere on the concrete.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Delivering the Goods by Judas Priest

Today's Metal Track is Delivering the Goods by Judas Priest. This is the opening track off of their 1979 album Killing Machine. I was going to play the studio version but I came across this live duet performance Rob did with Sebastian Bach of Skid Row and it slays. It's got way more energy than the studio version.

Here is the studio version. You be the judge.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Ravenous Medicine by Voivod

Today's Metal Track is an old school track from the Canadian thrash band Voivod. This is Ravenous Medicine off of their 1987 album Killing Technology. You can definitely hear some of their hardcore punk influence coming through in this track.

Scott's Instrumental Metal Track of the Day - System by OHM

One final tribute to Nick Menza

Today's Instrumental Metal Track is System by OHM. This is one of the numerous bands Nick has played with over the years. It was also the band he was performing with when he collapse on stage. This video was shot last year for the 10th anniversary of Soultone cymbals.

There is another Megadeth connection in this band. Guitarist Chris Poland was the guitarist for Megadeth's first two albums and again on their 2004 album, The System Has Failed. As far as I can tell, Nick and Chris were never apart of Megadeth at the same time, even when Nick was a drum tech prior to joining the band.

RIP Nick!

Scott's Bonus Metal Track of the Day - Rust In Peace...Polaris by Megaedth

Bonus Metal Track in honor of Nick Menza:

This is the closing and title track off of Megadeth's 1990 Rust In Peace album. It directly follows the previously posted, Dawn Patrol. It is impossible for me to hear the end of Dawn Patrol and not have Nick Menza's sweet drum intro from this song in my head. The way the drum line flows with the guitar in this track is fantastic.

The lyrics are from the point of view of a nuclear warhead named Polaris; a reference to the 1960a nuclear submarine named Polaris.

"I spread disease like a dog
Discharge my payload a mile high
Rotten egg air of death wrestles your nostrils

Launch the Polaris, the end doesn't scare us

When will this cease
The warheads will all rust in peace"

Once again, Rust In Peace Nick!

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track - Dawn Patrol by Megadeth

In honor of the passing of Nick Menza yesterday, today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is Dawn Patrol by Megdeth. This is off of their legendary 1990 thrash album Rust In Peace. It was the first album to feature both Nick Menza on drums and Marty Friedman on guitar forming the quintessential Megadeth lineup.

On the album this song leads into Rust In Peace...Polaris. I'll follow up with that as a bonus track

Rust In Peace Nick!

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Tolerate by Staind

Today's Metal Track is Tolerate by Staind. If you are expecting something like "Outside" or "It's Been Awhile" you may not want to click. This is a much rawer version of the band, which I preferred, before they hit the big time with their softer songs. This is the opening track off of their 1996 album Tormented.

This is a rare CD because only 4,000 copies were originally pressed and the later re-released copies were only sold at concerts. Lucky for me I have a good buddy like Jimmy who bought me a copy last year!

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Aerials by System of a Down

Life is a waterfall,
We drink from the river,
Then turnaround and put up our walls

Today's Metal Track is Aerials by System of a Down off of their 2001 album Toxicity. Wow it's been 15 years! This is one of their most successful songs and earned them their second Grammy nomination in 2003. Some great harmonies by Serj and Daron.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Muramasa by Periphery

Any Final Fantasy fans out there? I've never played them but know that the names of these songs were inspired by the names of two swords and an aircraft used in the FF games which were inspired by real Japanese sword designers and Norse mythology.

Today's Metal Track is part one of a trilogy (Muramasa, Ragnarok, Masamune) by Periphery. This is the opening track off of their 2012 album Periphery II: This Time It's Personal. Muramasa was a famous swordsmith who lived sometime between the 14th and 16th century in Japan.

Their new album, Periphery III: Select Difficulty, is set to release July 22.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Spit It Out by Slipknot

Today's Speed Rap-Metal Track is Spit It Out by Slipknot. This is off of their 1999 self-titled debut album. Unless you've been living under a rock you will recognize the music videos homage to one of the greatest horror movies of all time, The Shining. The band members reenact various scenes from the 1980 film.

Originally the video was banned from MTV because of the violence. An edited version was made to air on TV. It's funny because I was watching the actual The Shining movie on TV during the middle of the day this past Mother's Day. The video below is the unedited version.

All of the proceeds from the song went to help those victims.

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track - Nobody's Fool by Cinderella

Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is Nobody's Fool by Cinderella. Some great raspy vocals by Tom Keifer. The was the second single released from their 1986 debut album Night Songs. The first song they released as a sing, Shake Me, didn't do so well but this one made it to #13 on the charts.

Weekend Wildcard - In Time by Mark Collie (Guest host Brad)

Guest posting this weekend wildcard from ocean isle beach. Found this song on a CD in my car from many years ago. From the Punisher movie with a great guitar part and voice. Good for long drive listening.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Ironbound by Overkill

Today's Metal Track is Ironbound by thrash legends Overkill. This is the title track off of their 2010 album by the same name.

Two by two, iron to bend
Keeping the oath, right to the end
Three by three, breaking some bones
Snapping some neck, never alone
Here they come, rumble and pound
Never get used to hearing that sound
There they go, fast as they came
Never go back, never the same

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Are You Dead Yet by Children of Bodom

Today's Metal Track is Are You Dead Yet? by the Finnish Death Metal band Children of Bodom. This is the title track off of their 2005 album by the same name.

The title comes came about as a result of a long night of drinking by guitarist Alexi Laiho. He fell off the top of the car and broke a bunch of bones. He woke up in the hospital and looked in the mirror and said to himself "Have you had;4 enough? Are you dead yet?"

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Her Black Wings by Danzig

Metal? Check
Muscles? Check
Girl in black lingerie? Check

That can only mean one thing; Today's Metal Track is brought to you by Danzig. This is Her Black Wings off of their 1990 album Danzig II: Lucifuge. Lucifuge is Latin meaning "flee the light".

Her stride is such
Mortals freeze
When she walks past
And she comes down to me
And she offers me sleep
Under her black wings
Whoa oh, under her black wings

Scott's Instrumental Track of the Day - Tender Surrender by Steve Vai

Today's Instrumental Track of the Day is Tender Surrender by Steve Vai. This is the closing track off of his 1995 EP Alien Love Secrets. It starts off like lounge music but gets more intense as the song progresses.

Vai released this EP because his next full length album, Fire Garden, was taking too long to complete. This is taken from the DVD Alien Love Secrets where he performs every track on the EP.

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track - Mama Said by Metallica

Happy Mothers Day to all the Moms out there!

In honor of Mothers Day, today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is Mama Said by Metallica. This ballad is off of their 1996 album Load. I've mentioned this before but think it appropriate to mention today, Mama bought this album for me for my 6th grade graduation present. This came out in June so it had probably only be out a few days before I got it. Thanks Mom!

This song was written by James about his relationship with his mother who died of cancer when he was 16.

Weekend Wildcard - The Distance by Cake

In honor of the Kentucky Derby, this Weekend's Wildcard is The Distance by Cake. Nyquist went the distance earlier tonight to take home the crown.

He's going the distance, he's going for speed
She's all alone, all alone in her time of need
Because he's racing and pacing and plotting the course
He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse
He's going the distance

Thanks to Stone for the suggestion.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Spiritual Void by Overkill

Bless me with that special pain
That makes a man feel right as rain

This album came out when I was 9 and I listened to it non-stop. I didn't even know this video existed until I was in college. That shows you how much airplay it got.

Today's Metal Track is Spiritual Void by Overkill. This is off of their 1993 album I Hear Black. This is just a good old fashioned groove metal track. I had planned to post this yesterday for Blitz's birthday but decided to post the Mexican band for Cinco de Mayo.

Happy Belated Birthday Blitz!

Scott's Pista metálica del Día - El Infierno de Dante por Transmetal

In honor of Mexico's Independence Day... I kid, I kid. In honor of the Mexican army's victory over the French in the Battle of Puebla in 1862 today's 'Pista de Metal' comes from the Mexican metal band Transmetal.

This is the opening and title track of their 1993 album El Infierno de Dante which is Spanish for Dante's Inferno; a reference to Vol. 1 of The Divine Comedy of Dante Alighieri which is, in case you didn't know, a description of what happens to the souls who are damned to hell.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - The Red by Chevelle

Chevelle is one of those bands that toes the line between alternative metal and rock and I would definitely say they lean more towards the rock side. I've had them on the list to post but never really got the inkling to do it until now. I saw them in concert years ago at Ozzfest or something like that. I have not kept up with them through the years but I remember this being their huge breakthrough hit. If anyone has some suggestions from their newer stuff let me know.

Today's Metal Track is The Red off of their 2002 sophomore album Wonder What's Next. I like the palm muted portions and the screaming at the end. The song is about anger management, obviously, which is something I can relate to at times when these youngins of mine push my buttons or if I'm working with a tool or putting something together that doesn't operate like it is designed... RAWR. I better stop typing before I get mad thinking about it.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Hatred United/United Hate by Death Angel

Back in March when I posted Death Angel's Dethroned, I mentioned that they were releasing a new album May 27th but I hadn't seen any singles yet. Well apparently they have posted three new tracks over the past month including this official video for Hatred United/United Hate just a few days ago. I just came across it a few minutes ago and loved it from the first listen.

For a band that's been around since the 80s I think they are putting out their best material now. Look forward to the rest of the album.

Scott's Instrumental Metal Track of the Day - Altered Course by Isis

Today's Instrumental Metal Track is Altered Course by Isis. This is another one off of their outstanding 2004 album Panopticon. It's so outstanding that I've posted every song from the album except one. I'm sure that one will make the cut soon.

Enjoy some relaxing landscape  metal music!

The was a 1994 based on the title of the song starring Meg Ryan and Andy Garcia. Percy passed away just over a year ago at the age of 74.
