Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Kingdom by Devin Townsend

Today's Metal Track is Kingdom and is brought to you by Devin Townsend. This is off of his 2012 album Epicloud released under the moniker Devin Townsend Project. This song is actually a rerecording of the song that was originally released on his 2000 album Physicist.

Townsend has an outstanding opera style voice that is on full display on this track. He also seems to have a great attitude and doesn't take himself to seriously as you can tell from him goofing off in this video for EMG.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - The Crowing by Coheed and Cambria

Today's Metal Track is The Crowing by Coheed and Cambria. This is off of their 2003 album In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3. This album picks up 10 years after the previous album Second Stage Turbine Blade.

In this song Claudio is woken up from his sleep by Ambellina, a member of the Prise who has been cast out in order to become Claudio’s guardian on his path to become The Crowing. He is told by Ambellina of their coinciding fates, and that he must rise up and meet his destiny. He is told that he, The Crowing, is responsible for the end of the Keywork as God’s riddle had mentioned. He also learns of his family’s fate, and though he is skeptical, he swears to hunt down Ryan and seek revenge.

Today's Metal Track is Foe Hammer and is brought to you by Exmortus. This is off of their 2014 album Slave to the Sword. I don't know much about these guys but I heard this song a few times on Liquid Metal yesterday on road trip and really dug it. The name Foe Hammer refers to Gandalf's sword in the Lord of the Rings.

Weekend Wildcard - And it Spread by The Avett Brothers

This Weekend's Wildcard is And it Spread by The Avett Brothers from North Carolina. This is off of their 2009 album I and Love and You. This was their first major label release. I like this song mostly because of the vocals and specifically the part at 1:59.

"Well there are no lines
separating the truth from the lie"

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Gateways by Dimmu Borgir

Today's Metal Track is Gateways and is brought to you by the Norwegian black metal band Dimmu Borgir. This is off of their 2010 album Abrahadabra. This song features guest vocals from Agnete Kjølsrud which provides a great dynamic in the song with my favorite part being from 3:47 on.

Be the broken or the breaker
Be the giver or the undertaker
Unlatch and open the doors
Be the healer or the faker
The keys are in your hands
Realize you are your own sole creator
Of your own masterplan

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Bleed by Meshuggah

Today's Metal Track is Bleed and is brought to you by Meshuggah. This brutal track is off of the Swedish metal band's 2008 album obZen. The album title is meant to represent that mankind has found its 'zen' in the obscure and obscene.

The song was cut down from its original length of 7:22 for the video. It was also featured as a downloadable track on Rock Band in 2010.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Wait and Bleed by Slipknot

Today's Metal Track is Wait and Bleed by Slipknot. This is off of their 1999 self-titled debut album. This was the band's first single and the first song I ever heard by them.

There are two versions of this song; The original studio version (this one) and a remixed version that has more prominent clean vocals that they used for the official videos. I much prefer the original version. The cleaner version just isn't as heavy.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Madhouse by Anthrax

Today's Metal Track is Madhouse by Anthrax. This is the first single off of their 1985 album Spreading the Disease. This was the first album to feature Joey Belladonna on vocal and Frank Bello on bass.

This is a classic cheesy 80's metal video which has Scott Ian with hair! This song was featured in the Grand Theft Auto: Vice City game back in 2002. I remember rocking out to it while driving around trying to create 5 star police chases.

Scott's Instrumental Metal Track of the Day - Lathe Biosas by Pelican

Today's Instrumental Metal Track is Lathe Biosas and is brought to you by Pelican. This is off of their 2012 EP Ataraxia/Taraxis.

"The phrase Lathe Biosas summarizes the core of Epicurean philosophy of life and it means to live unobtrusively, preserving tranquility. It constitutes an aspect complete opposite to the common one, according to which life style, popularity, celebrity and recognition are to be pursued."

Easy Like Sunday Mornning Track - Friend of a Friend by Foo Fighters

Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is Friend of a Friend and is brought to you by Foo Fighters. This is off of the second disc of their 2005 album In Your Honor which was entirely acoustic.

Dave actually wrote this song in 1990 about his then bandmates, Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic (Hence the line "He says nevermind").

My favorite lyrics:
"He thinks he drinks too much
Cause when he tells his two best friends
I think I drink too much
No-one speaks"

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - We Shall Destroy by Amon Amarth

Today's Metal Track is We Shall Destroy by Amon Amarth. This is off of their album Deceiver of the Gods which was released last year. This video uses footage from the History Channel show Vikings. I'm not sure if this is an official video or just a fan video. Either way, it's awesome.

The lead singer, Johan Hegg, will be playing the role of a viking in an upcoming movie titled "Northmen: A Viking Saga". He is a great fit for this due to his looks and his love of Norse Mythology.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Flying High Again by Ozzy Osbourne

"Oh No, Oh No" Today's Metal Track is Flying High Again and is brought to you by Ozzy Osbourne. This is off of his 1981 album Diary of a Madman. While most songs tell stories about the dark side of drugs, this one celebrates it and is unapologetic. As always, this song features some great guitar work by Randy Rhoads (RIP).

"No use saying sorry,
It's something that I enjoy
Flying High Again"

Scott's Innstrumental Metal Track of the Day - Zero by Periphery

Today's Instrumental Metal Track is Zero and is brought to you by Periphey. This is off of their Clear EP which was released earlier this year. For this EP, each band member wrote a song that shared the same theme as the opening track which was written together. This was Misha's song.

Funny story, I tried to text "Can I get that Clear LP from you" to Adam but autocorrect changed it to "Can I get that Clear LOVE from you."

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track - Angel by Aerosmith

Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is Angel and is brought to you by Aerosmith. This was my and Jessica's "Song" in high school. This is off of their 1987 album Permanent Vacation.

This song was a huge hit and got tons of airplay. In 1990 Steven Tyler stated "The song was beautiful. It made me cry. But I heard it so damn much it drove me crazy! It became overplayed and at this point I'm so sick of it I never want to hear that song again."

Weekend Wildcard - Roulette Dares (The Haunt of) by The Mars Volta

This Weekend's Wildcard is Roulette Dares (The Haunt of) by The Mars Volta. This is off of their 2003 debut album De-Loused in the Comatorium. This song is very hectic at times but don't let that scare you off. This was the song that first made me a fan of the band.

The concept album is an hour-long tale of Cerpin Taxt, a man who enters a week-long coma after overdosing on a mixture of morphine and rat poison. The story of Cerpin Taxt alludes to the death of El Paso, Texas artist — and Bixler-Zavala's friend — Julio Venegas.

"Exoskeletal junction at the railroad delayed"

Today's Metal Track is Bring Back the Bomb by Gwar. This is the opening track off of their 2004 album War Party. Dave Brockie has said "...basically Gwar pledges support to the powers who support the war, and we make such a right-wing statement that the right wing would be ashamed to have us."

Just remember to not take these guys too seriously and enjoy the act!

Punch it

Kill the lights
Place the bait
Wait for signals

Today's Metal Track is Pull Me Under and is brought to you by Dream Theater. This is off of their 1992 album Images and Words. This is the album versions which is almost twice as long as the single version that was released for radio and the music video.

This song refers to Shakespeare's Hamlet and is told from the perspective of Prince Hamlet. It is about Hamlet's desire to gain revenge for his father at the cost of his own sanity. At the end of the song is a direct quote from the play, "Oh that this too, too solid flesh would melt."

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - In Fiction by Isis

Today's Metal Track is brought to you by Isis. This is another one off of their outstanding 2004 album Panopticon. This song starts off really slow but it really sets the mood.

Reviewers of this album stated that “those with long attention spans will find [the album] utterly rewarding” and that “this record demands a great deal from the listener – attention and patience, certainly – those who give it a chance will find a band that is truly special, and manages to consistently exceed expectations."

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Hand of Doom by Black Sabbath

"Whatcha Gonna Do?"

Today's Metal Track is brought to you by Black Sabbath. This is off of their classic 1970 album Paranoid. This song has such a great vibe to it, especially the intro with that baseline.

Geezer Butler expressed his frustration at how fans misinterpreted the band's lyrics, stating that "for instance, on 'Hand Of Doom' they'll pick up one sentence out of that and blow it up into this big thing, like as if we're telling everyone to go and shoot smack. The whole song is against drugs."

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - The Art of Dying by Gojira

Today's Metal Track is brought to you by the French metal band Gojira. This is off of their 2008 album The Way of All Flesh. This is a fan made video but it is pretty cook.

The song starts with some tribal like drumming that continues to build until the guitars come in and kick you in the face. The riff starting around 6 minutes in is fantastic and lucky for us they play it for about 3 minutes. The part played at the very end is actually a recording played backwards. If you were to reverse that portion it would resemble the next track on the album.

I won't bring no material in the after life
Take no possessions, I would rather travel light
I'm of this kind that kills all day
But I don't know yet how to die
