Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Divine Intervention by Slayer

Today's Metal Track is Divine Intervention by Slayer. This is the title track off of their 1994 album by the same name. I listened to a lot of Slayer growing up but I didn't listen to this album. This track is worth posting for the opening riff alone.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Let Us Slay by Gwar

On Liquid Metal this morning they were doing a special on Gwar's annual Gwar-B-Q which is going on throughout this week in their hometown of Richmond. So in honor, today's Metal Track is Let Us Slay off of their 2009 album Lust in Space. Check out Liquid Metal all this week on SiriusXM for more coverage.

Scott's Instrumental Metal Track of the Day - Irresistable by Deafheaven

Today's Instrumental Metal Track is a follow up to Friday's track, Dream House, by Deafheaven. Irresistible is the short interlude that follows Dream House and leads into the title track, Sunbather.

I know this particular track is not metal but it's wedged between two extremely metal songs.

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track - Sleeping Dogs by Zakk Wylde

Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is Sleeping Dogs by Zakk Wylde. This is off of his Book of Shadows II album which was released earlier this year. The two Book of Shadows albums are the only solo albums Zakk has released and are separated by 10 years. They are both mostly acoustic and highlight the light side of Zakk Wylde.

Another version of this song includes a guest appearance by Corey Taylor of Slipknot.

Weekend Wildcard - Put Your Money On Me by The Struts

At a forum this week for work I shared with the group that I have this blog. Welcome to all of those folks who are now following. And thanks to Patrick Woods for recommending today's song. I had never heard of these guys.

This Weekend's Wildcard is Put Your Money On Me by The Struts. This is off of the English rock band's 2014 debut album Everybody Wants.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Dream House by Deafheaven

Today's Metal Track is Dream House by Deafheaven. This is the opening track off of their 2013 album Sunbather. This doozy of a track is filled different styles ranging from shoegaze, melodic, post-rock, screaming, and of course metal.

I know this is one of Jamie Nickerson's favorite songs and albums. Maybe he'll post here to provide a better review than me.

Update - Comments from Jamie:

Man. There are albums that I love and then there are albums that become an obsession. This was the latter and this song my favorite from the album. To the dismay of many purist black metal fans, they eschewed a lot of the genres production style as well as incorporated a lot of elements not typically found in black metal (to the point where I don't really even consider this a black metal album). A lot of people will talk about bands like Alcest having mixed shoegaze and post rock with black metal first - and they're right - but, in my opinion, no one has done it better than deafheaven. They just did everything right on this record. The story behind the creation, the logo font, the now iconic album cover, all meshed with an album that was already a cut above. It is one of the few times that I've listened to an album, and within the first few listens, KNEW I was listening to an album that would be heralded as a classic. Didn't take long to prove true.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Marigold by Periphery

Today's Metal Track of the Day is Marigold by Periphery. This is off of the band's latest album Periphery III: Select Difficulty which was released last month. The album title, like many of their past song titles, is inspired by the numerous video games that have the option to 'select difficulty.

The numbering of their albums is a little confusing. This is their fifth studio album but it is labeled as III. I read in my Guitar Magazine today that they treat their previous release, the double album Juggernaut: Alpha and Juggernaut: Omega, as separate since it was a concept album.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Five Magics by Megadeth

Give me alchemy, give me wizardry,
Give me sorcery, thermatology
Electricity, Magic if you please,
Master all of these, Bring him to his knees

Today's Metal Track is Five Magics by Megadeth. This is off of their legendary 1990 album Rust in Peace. I've always love the intro on this track. It's so nice they had to play it twice! And the solo at the end!

I also listened to the remastered version of this track and it's not as good. I also noticed that the lyrics I posted are in a different order in the remaster.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Insane by Korn

Today's Metal Track is Insane by Korn. This video was just released last night and will be the opening track on their upcoming album titled The Serenity of Suffering which comes out October 21.

I haven't really listened to much of their new stuff in the past 5 years or so. I didn't really get into their dubstep stuff they released but this sounds pretty good and the video is cool and dark.

Scott's Instrumental Metal Track of the Day - Sliding Away by Jason Becker

Today's Instrumental Metal Track is a previously unreleased track by the legendary Jason Becker. It was recorded in 1990 but was just released yesterday. He wrote about it so I will just let him speak for it.

"I have decided to put some of my unreleased demos on YouTube. This was my first attempt at slide guitar. ALS had really gotten into my hands and arms, so they kept falling off the guitar. It was meant to be a vocal tune. David Lee Roth was touring at the time without me, which was totally fine with me. People felt sad for me, but I was happy because I could still do music."

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track - Tennessee Whiskey by Chris Stapleton (Cover)

Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is Tennessee Whiskey as performed by Chris Stapleton. This song was originally written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove and recorded by David Allan Coe for his 1981 album by the same name. Chris recorded this for his 2015 debut solo album Traveller.

Chris was first a song writer where he wrote 6 number one hits. So it is kind of ironic that one of his first number one hits as a performer was actually written by someone else. He performed this with Justin Timberlake on November 4, 2015 and sales for his album went up 6,000%! So that is why I chose to play that version of the song.

Weekend Wildcard - No Sleep till Brooklyn by the Beastie Boys

So Andrew and I have this ritual, when I wake him up in the morning to go to daycare and he hasn't pooped I start singing "No Poop till... dun dun... dun... dun Daycare! OK maybe it's just my ritual.

This Weekend's Wildcard is No Sleep till Brooklyn by the Beastie Boys. It's off of their 1987 debut album License to Ill. Kerry King from Slayer plays guitar on this track and is featured in the video although you may not recognize him with hair. Rick Rubin was the producer for both Slayer and the Beastie Boys.

The Beastie Boys changed some of the lyrics in the song later in their career because they were misogynistic.

Now, what do you own the world?
How do you own disorder, disorder

Today's Metal Track is Toxicity by System of a Down. This is the title track off of their break through 2001 album by the same name.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Killer Wolf by Danzig

I am the Waaauf..

Today's Metal Track is Killer Wolf by Danzig. This is off of their 1990 album Danzig II: Lucifuge. Don't believe the YouTube comments. He doesn't actually say "I killed a Mexican" even though it sounds like it. He says "I curl up next to you."

Such an awesome bluesy metal track!

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Disasterpiece by Slipknot (Guest host Kyle Lott)

Scott asked me to post today's Metal track on his behalf, so here it goes.

Today's Metal track is Disasterpiece by Slipknot. This one comes off their 2001 album titled, "Iowa". From what I can find, this song is said to be Corey Taylor's favorite song to do to get him pumped during a show and he just lets raw emotion through. This song was written by Taylor to describe the emotions he felt when being bullied in school and his desire to kill the one who bullied him. This song is dark and is all that is metal.

Scott's Instrumental Metal Track of the Day - Crack the Sky by Buckethead

Today's Instrumental Metal Track of the Day is Crack the Sky by Buckethead. This song is dedicated to 76ers star Blake Griffin. He also has some songs dedicated to Lebron James and other basketball stars. I wonder if they even know.

This is off of his 2011 album It's Alive.

One in the air ten in the sand
Clip my wings and let me fall to you

Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is If I Have to Wake Up (Would You Stop the Rain?) by Baroness. This is off of their most recent album Purple which was released last December. Such a beautiful song!

Weekend Wildcard - Mista Bone by Great White

This Weekend's Wildcard is Mista Bone by Great White. Heard this on the radio today and realized I hadn't posted any Great White yet. I had a Great White poster on my bedroom door when I was a kid. This is off of their 1989 album ...Twice Shy which is the follow up to the album 'Once bitten...'. I didn't realize until now that they released the two albums that way to go with their cover of Once Bitten, Twice Shy. Neat!

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Strife by Trivium

Today's Metal Track is Strife by Trivium. This is off of their 2013 album Vengeance Falls. This album still hasn't really grown on me like their older stuff, probably because David Draiman from Disturbed produced it, but this track is still solid.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Horroscope by Overkill

Critical moments pass,
As doctrines of fools will last.

Today's Metal Track is Horrorscope by Overkill. This is the title track off of their 1991 album by the same name. This song is one of the slowest songs by the thrash metal gods but it is also one of their heaviest. I think it is impossible not to headbang at the 2:40 mark.

Heavy Riffs
DD playing a double neck bass
Gant pulling out the sweet solo
And Blitz killing it on vocals as usual

What more do you want?

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Liar by Rollins Band

In honor of the Presidential Election today's Metal Track is Liar by Rollins Band. If you have never seen this video, you are missing out. I just watched it today for the first time in probably 10 years and I remember it like it was yesterday. So awesome. This is off of their 1994 album Weight. I'm glad I haven't gotten around to posting this until this year.

CAUSE I'M A LIAR!!!!

This was used on Beavis and Butthead where Beavis gets really excited because it sounds like Fire! Fire! Fire!

Here is the Beavis and Butthead clip:

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Battery by Metallica

Today's Metal Track is Jack's new favorite song, Battery, by Metallica. Jack asks for it in the car every time now as the "bloom bloom" song referencing the opening acoustic notes.

This is the opening track off of arguably the best Metal album of all time. Master of Puppets was released 30 years ago in 1986! What a beautiful introduction to the masterpiece of an album that follows. When the distortion kicks in it's like receiving a jolt from actual high voltage battery.

Smashing through the boundaries, Lunacy has found me
Cannot stop the Battery
Pounding out aggression, Turns into obsession
Cannot kill the battery
Cannot kill the family, Battery is found in Me!

Scott's Instrumental Metal Track of the Day - Gravity Storm by Steve Vai

Today's Instrumental Metal Track is Gravity Storm by Steve Vai. This is off of his 2012 album The Story of Light. Some pretty cool a quirky notes in this track. And be sure to check out the sweet electric harp thing that home girl is jamming on. The internet tells me that is Deborah Henson-Conant who owns the nickname Hip Harpist.

This cover was released as a Record Store Black Friday single in 2013. Earlier this year it was included as the title track on his album Changes. Enjoy the facial expressions.

Thanks to Rob Woodside for the recommendation!

Weekend Wildcard - Cat People (Putting Out Fire) by Shooter Jennings featuring Marilyn Manson

So I've be waiting to post this all week. This Weekend's Wildcard is Cat People (Putting out Fire). This video was released this past Monday and I cam across it on Facebook via Manson. I watched this amazingly bizarre 8-bit graphic style video and had no idea what it was, only that I loved it. I had never heard of Cat People before.

Let me see if I can do this is one sentence (Sorry English teachers):

This song by Waylon Jennings' son, Shooter Jennings, and Marilyn Manson is a cover of the theme song, originally composed by Giorgio Moroder and performed by David Bowie, for the 1982 remake of the 1942 erotic horror movie Cat People which is about werecats who are people that turn into panthers after mating with a human and must kill to return to human form.

Whew, I'm sure that was not grammatically correct but I wanted to point out how awesome and bizarre this track is. Shooter Jennings is a big Giorgio Moroder fan and decided to put out a tribute album in his honor titled Cauntach (For Giorgio). The Italian singer, songwriter, and DJ has composed numerous songs in films over the years. This track is the closing track on that album.

Manson does an outstanding job covering Bowie's vocals and the video also has some great tributes to the late icon. RIP!

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Welcome to Planet M.F. by White Zombie

Today's Metal Track is Welcome to Planet M.F. by White Zombie. This is the opening track off of their 1992 album La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Volume On. On the album, the opening track consists of this song followed by Psychoholic Slog which is awesome. I found the two combined on YouTube but the sound quality was crap so I went with this official one.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - My Dying Time by Black Label Society

Today's Metal Track is My Dying by Black Label Society. This is off of their 2014 album Catacombs of the Black Vatican. This is the most recent single and album released by the band. I haven't heard of them working on anything new but Zakk did just release his second solo album earlier this year. Maybe he will have time now to do something with BLS.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Lost by Death Angel

Everyone hates a bully!

Today's Metal Track is an anti-bullying song titled Lost by the American thrash metal band Death Angel. This is off of their latest album, The Evil Divide, which was released earlier this year.

I've grown to see the wrong I've done
And I cannot shake this pain
So I close my eyes, and let it go
With one final breath of shame

Rain down on me
And wash this pain away

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Pliable Foe by Isis

Today's Metal Track is Pliable Foe by Isis. Again, the good Isis. This track was released in a unique way. In 2010, Isis and the Melvins collaborated on a split EP titled Melvins/Isis that only contained two track from each band. The EP was released after Isis had announced their unfortunate dissolution. This track and music video was later included on their 2012 compilation album Temporal.

Scott's Instrumental Metal Track of the Day - Deny the Absolute by Pelican

As a follow up to last week's trip to Illinois, today's Instrumental Metal Track is Deny the Absolute by Pelican. These guys are from Des Plaines, Illinois. This is off of their 2013 album Forever Becoming.
