Scott's Metal Track of the Day - The Heaviest Matter of the Universe by Gojira

Today's Metal Track is The Heaviest Matter of the Universe by Gojira. This Heavy song is another one off of their 2005 album From Mars to Sirius. This song has a killer breakdown. I believe this song is about astral projection; an out of body experience.

Golden unworldly silence
Space flight at speed of light
I cross the clouds and colors
The black hole is calling me
I slide on the horizon
On the frontier not to cross

Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is Hand Cannot Erase by Steven Wilson. This is the title track off of his latest album released earlier this year. This is a concept album about a woman living in a large city who dies in her apartment and no one misses her for three years, despite her having family and friends. I haven't had a chance to listen to the whole album yet but am looking forward to it.

Weekend Wildcard - Paradise by the Dashboard Light by Meat Loaf

This Weekend's Wildcard is Paradise by the Dashboard Light by Meat Loaf. This is off of his 1977 album Bat Out of Hell. This is very fun song with the back and forth between Meat Loaf and Ellen Foley. The song structure is what makes the song unique with many changes in tempo and style. I am not very familiar with Meat Loaf's work but if there is a better song of his than this, please let me know.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Somewhat Damaged by Nine Inch Nails

Today's Metal Track is Somewhat Damaged by Nine Inch Nails. I picked this one today because it was used in the opening scene of the most recent The Walking Dead episode. I guess Aiden was a NIN fan. About the only good thing you could say about him. It was funny watching two old people sitting around listening to NIN.

This is the opening track off of their 1999 album The Fragile.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Bounce by System of a Down

Pogo Pogo Pogo Pogo Pogo Pogo Pogo Pogo

Today's Metal Track is Bounce by System of a Down. Sometimes known as the Pogo Stick song, this track comes off of their 2001 album Toxicity. This is just a short quirky song that is a lot of fun.

Unannounced twister games,
All players with no names,
They lined up double quick,
But just one pogo stick,
Everyone gets to play,
Runaway, expose',
It was so exotic,
But just one pogo stick.

Today's Metal Track is Moonlapse Vertigo by Opeth. This is off of their 1999 album Still Life. This is just another example of Opeth being the best metal band ever. Seriously, these guys are amazing. I've been playing the Still Life album on repeat lately.

This intro is just beautiful and that riff at the 2:35 mark is just killer.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - The End of Heartache by Killswitch Engage

Today's Metal Track is The End of Heartache by Killswitch Engage. This is the title track off of their 2004 album by the same name. This was the first that really got me into KSE. I had heard Fixation on the Darkness before but this is the one that got me hooked. This was also the theme song for the Resident Evil: Apocalypse film.

Two music videos were released for this song but both of them were modified to have cleaner vocals. That is why I chose to post the original here. It is also about a minute longer.

The song talks about Manson as a kid when he was pushed around bullies.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - ...And the Great Cold Death of the Earth by Agalloch

Today's Metal Track is ...And the Great Cold Death of the Earth by Agalloch. This is off of their 2002 album The Mantle. This is a very chill metal song with a heavy folk metal influence. It's is about the end of the world at the hand of humans. The second verse in the song is an excerpt from the Cherokee folk tale "Earth Making":

"Earth is floating on the waters like an island,
Hanging from four rawhide ropes
Fastened at the top of the sacred four directions
The ropes are tied to the ceiling of the sky
When the ropes break, this world will come
Tumbling down and all living things will fall with it and die"

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Sleep Now in the Fire by Rage Against the Machine

Today's Metal Track is Sleep Now in the Fire by Rage Against the Machine. This is off of their 1999 album The Battle of Los Angeles. This song is about greed and criticisms of government actions during wartime.

The video was directed by Michael Moore who can been seen in the video. The annotations made during the video and the quote at the end are not made up. The quote was from politician Gary Bauer following an incident outside of fellow Republican Alan Keyes' 2000 primary campaign town hall event, where Keyes jumped into a mosh pit formed while Rage Against the Machine was playing. \m/

Tom Morello's solo is played by simply using feedback from the amp, along with using his whammy bar to adjust the pitch of the feedback. By flicking his toggle switch on and off, he is able to create the high-pitched solo.

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track - Lucille by Kenny Rogers

Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is Lucille by Kenny Rogers. This is off of his self titled 1977 album and was his first solo hit. The song is about a man who meets a woman at a bar who had just left her husband. The husband then shows up with the famous line "You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille, with four hungry children and a crop in the field."

Kenny got the idea for the song from the talk show Dinah! The famous line from the song was taken directly from one of the callers. I've heard the line played at piano bars but with added words that I will not post here :).
