Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Civil War by Guns N Roses

We got the wall of D.C. to remind us all
That you can't trust freedom
When it's not in your hands
When everybody's fightin'
For their promised land
And
I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store

Really stoked about the GNR concert tonight. Will be Jack's first concert. Today's Metal Track is one of my all-time favorite songs from their 1991 album Use Your Illusions II.

Scott's Wild, Easy Like Sunday Morning Metal Track - In Blur by Deafheaven

August 20th was big day for metal. I had three options for Metal Track that day. Dimebag's birthday, BTBAM's Colors II release, and Deafheaven's Infinite Granite Release. Dimebag took priority and I followed up with BTBAM early the following week. Then after listening to Deafheaven's Infinite Granite, I didn't know what to do with it. Is it a Metal Track, Weekend Wildcard, Easy Like Sunday Morning? Well, I'm just going to post one today and let you decide.

Today's Wild, Easy Like Sunday Morning Metal Track is In Blur from the black metal band's shoegaze album Infinite Granite. This album is an extreme departure from their usual black metal style. They've always had elements of shoegaze intertwined with screaming vocals and heavy riffs but this album is almost 100% clean vocals. And I'm okay with that and think it's a great album.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - The Dagger by Roadrunner United

Today's Metal Track is The Dagger which was a track that came out of the Roadrunner United project organized by Roadrunner Records to celebrate their 25th anniversary. Four "team captains" were chosen to lead 57 artists from 45 past and present Roadrunner bands, and produce and oversee the album's 18 tracks. Robb Flynn, frontman and singer for Machinehead, was the captain for this track.

Robb, along with Howard Jones (Killswitch Engage), Jordan Whelan (Still Remains), Jeff Waters (Annihilator), Christian Olde Wolbers (Powerflow), and Andols Herrick (Chimaira) recorded this track as the opening track on the album.

This track inspired by Liquid Metal's Into the Trivia Pit show today which included the riff in one of their name that riff questions.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Joey Jordison Drum Solo RIP

Was really sad to hear of the passing of Joey Jordison earlier this week. I actually just read about it a few minutes ago. Not sure how I missed it. Oddly enough I just listened to the entire Vol. 3 album today at the gym. He was a founding member of Slipknot and one of the greatest drummers in the business. In 2016, he revealed that he was suffering from a neurological disease called acute transverse myelitis which resulted in him losing the use of his legs.

Today's Metal Track is his drum solo taken from their 2002 Disasterpieces DVD. RIP Joey! He was only 46 :(

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Weight of the False Self by Hatebreed

There’s a challenge that’s begging to be risen to
There’s a voice and it’s your true self calling you
End the cycle, kill all willful self-abuse
Never justify another excuse

Today's Metal Track is Weight of the False Self by Hatebreed. This is the title track off of last year's album. For a band with the name Hatebreed, they sure do have a lot of inspirational themes.

If you want to make a difference in the world it means
You have to be different from the world you see
Free yourself from burdens that you know exist
Don’t carry the curse of the fatalist

It was pretty cool with the live chat, it was like a listening party. Today's Metal Track, Heathenheart, is the title track off of the Canadian band's upcoming album set to release tomorrow. The final two minutes of this track are great. I actually like some of the other songs on the album better so expect some more from these guys soon.

Scott's Instrumental Metal Track of the Day - Intermission/ATON by The Depth Beneath Us

Saturday marked 8 years since I started my Metal Tracks blog. I don't have an exact count of posts but it's around the 2900 different tracks now. It's been difficult to post everyday but it's also challenged me to find new music that might not otherwise have discovered.

Kind of like today's Instrumental Track from The Depth Beneath Us. I discovered them going down a YouTube rabbit hole one day searching for new instrumental bands. I really like their 360 music videos and of course their post rock vibe. Today's track is a twofer with Intermission followed by ATON. Last time I posted they were kind enough to leave a comment stating that they are in the process of recording their debut album.

I usually do instrumentals on Monday's but this track just came out and I can't wait. Today's Instrumental Metal Track is a dandy of prog metal track by the supergroup Liquid Tension Experiment. Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Genocidal Humanoidz by System of A Down

Can... You... See... Us
Beating the devil
We never run from the devil
We never summoned the devil
We never hide from the devil

How in the world did I miss System of a Down releasing new music. Heard it on Liquid Metal today listed as new music but looks like it came out over 2 months ago. This is their first new material since 2005 and it sounds like they didn't miss a beat.

They released this track and one other in response to the Nagorno-Karabakh last year. According to the band, both tracks "speak of a dire and serious war being perpetrated upon our cultural homelands of Artsakh and Armenia."

Currently they are being released as non-album singles to raise money for the Aid For Artsakh Campaign.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - The Apostle In Triumph by Opeth

Today's Metal Track is The Apostle In Triumph by Swedish metal legends Opeth. This is the closing track off of their 1995 debut album Orchid. Clocking in at 13:01 it is the third, yes third, longest song on the album. Opeth stated that due to an error in the mastering process, the end of Requiem, the previous track on the album, was placed at the beginning of this track, lol. That explains the first minute or so of this track and the odd transition.
