Today's Instrumental Track is Trouble Is by Kenny Wayne Sheppard. This
is the title track off of his 1997 album by the same name. Thanks to Dan Cummins for the suggestion.
Exploring Heavy Metal and all its glory. Heavy Metal is often misunderstood and thought to be just a bunch of guys banging and screaming when in fact it can be extremely thoughtful, intelligent, and sincere. Expect some throw-down-head-banging, chill mood metal, and gloomy death metal that you're probably not going to hear on the radio. On the weekends we'll mix things up with a Weekend Wildcard and an Easy Like Sunday Morning Track to get you over your hangover!

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track - Maybe I'm Amazed by Paul McCartney
Maybe I'm amazed at the way you love me all the time
Maybe I'm afraid of the way I love you
Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is Maybe I'm Amazed by Paul McCartney. This is off of his 1970 debut solo album McCartney. This album came on the heels of the break up of the Beatles. McCartney dedicated this song to his wife, Linda, who helped him through this very difficult time. Paul played all of the instruments on this album and recorded all of the vocals with the exception of some contributions from his wife.

Weekend Wild Card (Guest Host Stone) - The Sun Always Shines on TV by a-ha
The weekend wildcard for Scott Brame
today is an a-ha song that is not Take On Me! I had this album on vinyl
as a kid borrowed from my sister and I always liked this song better.
The video is the sequel to the popular Take On Me video and is the 2nd
in a 3-part series.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Postmortem by Slayer
One more in honor of this Saturday's show. Today's Metal Track is Postmortem by Slayer. This is off of their 1986 Reign in Blood which is considered by many to be one of the most influential metal records ever produced. This track leads into the title track from the album, Raining Blood.
Looking forward to finally checking them off of my bucket list this Saturday at the Ritz. I hate I wasn't able to see them before Hanneman died. RIP! He wrote the music for almost the entire album and the lyrics for many of the songs including this one.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Rise Up by Testament
In honor the show this Saturday, today's Metal Track is Rise Up by Testament. This is off of their 2012 album Dark Roots of Earth. My brother and I are going to see them this Saturday at the Ritz with Slayer. We listened to these guys back in the late 80s and early 90s but have never seen them live. I've been looking at the setlist for this tour and am a little bummed that they haven't been playing anything from Practice What You Preach which is the album I grew up with.
I'll give you one guess as to which band I'm posting tomorrow!

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Baby Blue by Deafheaven
Today's Metal Track is Baby Blue by Deafheaven. This is off of their newest album New Bermuda which was released just last year. I'm still a n00b with their material but they are definitely growing on me. I really like this song, especially the second half.
I really like the artwork for the album cover. It's an oil painting by artist Allison Schulnik titled Deaf Head #3. It was painted specifically for this album.
The outro is a recording of NJ traffic control telling folks to avoid the George Washington bridge due to lane closures directed by NJ Governor Chris Christie. Evidently he did it to spite the Mayor of Fort Lee, NJ. It's referred to as the Fort Lee lane closure scandal.

Scott's Instrumental Metal Track of the Day - Conquer or Die by Megadeth
Today's Instrumental Metal Track is Conquer or Die by Megadeth. This is off of their newest album Dystopia which was just released last month. This album features new members Kiko Loureiro on guitar and Chris Adler on drums (Lamb of God). From what I can tell, Kiko is playing lead on this track and showing off his incredible skill. Welcome to the band!

Easy Like Sunday Morning - If You Don't Know Me by Now by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes
Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is If You Don't Know Me by Now by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes. This is off of their 1972 debut album I Miss You. Despite the groups name giving Harold top billing, Teddy Pendergrass was the lead singer and the most famous of the group.
The song was written by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff and was originally supposed to be recorded by Labelle, a trio headed up by Patti Labelle. When they passed on it, the composers gave the song to Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes. Later in the 80s, the song was covered by the English band Simply Red on their 1989 album The New Flame.
Thanks for the suggestion Billy Munn.
Here is the Simply Red version.

Weekend's Wildcard - Shout by Tears for Fears
This Weekend's Wildcard is Shout by Tear for Fears. This is off of their 1985 album Songs from the Big Chair. This song was also covered by Disturbed on their debut album.
Song meaning straight from the horses' mouth:
"A lot of people think that 'Shout' is just another song about primal scream theory, continuing the themes of the first album. It is actually more concerned with political protest. It came out in 1984 when a lot of people were still worried about the aftermath of The Cold War and it was basically an encouragement to protest." ~Roland Orzabal
"It concerns protest inasmuch as it encourages people not to do things without actually questioning them. People act without thinking because that's just the way things go in society. So it's a general song, about the way the public accepts any old grief which is thrown at them." ~Curt Smith

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - First Kill by Amon Amarth
Today's Metal Track is First Kill by Amon Amarth. This is the opening track off of the Swedish band's upcoming album Jomsviking which is scheduled to be released on March 25.
Wikipedia: "The Jomsvikings were a semi-legendary order of Viking mercenaries or brigands of the 10th century and 11th century. They were staunchly Pagan and dedicated to the worship of such deities as Odin and Thor. They reputedly would fight for any lord able to pay their substantial fees and occasionally fought alongside Christian rulers."

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Attack by System of a Down
Today's Metal Track is Attack by System of a Down. This is the opening track off of their 2005 album Hypnotize which is the second half of their Mezmerize/Hypnotize double album. I wonder if Daron was channeling his inner Hetfield with his "Attack" scream at the 1:31 mark. Sounds a lot like the "Attack" scream in No Remorse which was posted two days ago.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Winter's Wolves by The Sword
Today's Metal Track is Winter's Wolves by The Sword. This is off of their 2006 debut album Age of Winters. This song is about going medieval on someone's hiney.
And know it is my wrath
I would mount your heads on the bloody spears
Outside your palace gates
And watch as crows peck out your eyes
And your cities are laid to waste
....
May the winter's wolves surround you
And rip the life from your throats
And know it is my wrath
I would mount your heads on the bloody spears
Outside your palace gates
And watch as crows peck out your eyes
And your cities are laid to waste
....
May the winter's wolves surround you

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - No Remorse by Metallica
Warning...
After pushing play, you have exactly 10 seconds to run before Hammett melts your face!
Today's Metal Track is No Remorse by Metallica. This is off of their 1983 debut album Kill Em' All. Not many songs start off with solo like this one. My brother and I loved this song for that reason.
This song is one of the many metal songs that inspired music for the classic video game Doom! The chorus from this track (1:32) inspired the most famous and recognizable Doom song titled At Doom's Gate.
War Without End!!
Here is the Doom Song

Scott's Instrumental Metal Track of the Day - Jason Becker Jam from 1986
Today's Instrumental Metal Track is some home footage of the great Jason Becker jamming on his Marshall stack. It is taken from the 2012 documentary titled Not Dead Yet about Becker. At the age of 19 he was diagnosed with ALS and told he would never make music again. Today he is making music through the use of technology developed by him and his dad that works based on eye movement.

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track - Where Did You Sleep Last Night by Nirvana
Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is Where Did You Sleep Last Night by Nirvana. This is taken from their 1993 performance on MTV Unplugged. The song is an old folk song dating back to the 1870s. It has gone by different names at times including "Black Girl" and "In the Pines". Some older versions of the song use "Black girl" instead of "My girl" as used in this version.
This particular version is a reinterpretation of Lead Belly's version from the 1940s. Kurt mentions in the video that Lead Belly is his favorite performer of all time. This performance received critical acclaim including praise from Neil Young. Speaking of Cobain's screaming on the final verse, Young stated his vocals were “Unearthly, like a werewolf, unbelievable.”

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Senor Peligro by Ministry
Today's Metal Track is Senor Peligro by Ministry. This is off of their 2004 album Rio Grande Blood. These guys really hate Bush. This album was the second album in a trilogy of anti-Bush albums. In this song Senor Peligro is Bush's alter ego.
I don't have strong opinions either way. I just know this song rocks! This is a Metal blog and not a political blog. Now go bang your head!

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Duality by Slipknot
I push my fingers into my eyes...
Today's Metal Track is Duality by Slipknot. This is off of their 2004 album Vol. 3 The Subliminal Verses. This is a pretty awesome video. It was shot at a fan's house that was set for renovation. They invited a bunch of fans to come and tear apart the house while the band performed. They fans were told to be careful around Craig Jones' mask because the nail could potentially stab them.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Bastard Nation by Overkill
Today's Metal Track is Bastard Nation by Overkill. This is off of their 1994 album W.F.O. I love the intro on this track and the solo. I included two versions because the sound quality is not great for the music video. The music video leaves out the cool little bass intro.
Let's cut out the heart to see if it bleeds
Full Song with better quality.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Finale by Anthrax
I drink three six packs, just so I can look at your face!
Finally!
Today's Metal Track is Finale by Anthrax. This is the closing track (obviously) off of their 1988 album State of Euphoria. This album didn't really receive a lot of praise but I love it. I think it is because this was the only Anthrax album we had when I was little so I played the crap out of it. I remember listening to it a lot in 3rd grade and probably even before that. The cover is classic too. Got it framed on the wall upstairs.
Over, finished, gone, done out!!!

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Face Fisted by Dethklok
I didn't realize it but I believe yesterday marked my 1000th post! Here's to another 1000 more!
Today's Metal Track is Face Fisted by Dethklok. This is off of their 2007 debut album Dethalbum. This track did not appear on the show until 2009 in Season three's Tributeklok. This is a fanmade video made of clips from the first two seasons. Also make sure you check out the Batman parody of this song below. It's absolutely hysterical.
So strong my face is
You punch break fingers
Kick me you're limping
Stab me you're bleeding
I am be angerous now
You throwing rock at me
Hit eye and it no hurt me
I'm strong

Scott's Instrumental Track of the Day - Flying in a Blue Dream by Joe Satriani
Today's Instrumental Track is Flying in a Blue Dream by Joe Satriani. It is the title and opening track off of his 1989 album by the same name. This video was taken from his 2006 DVD Satriani Live! which was filmed in Anaheim, CA.
The part at about the 1:30 mark is where the original recording of the song begins. The spoken words in the background were not planned. Joe's amplifier was picking up some frequency from a TV or radio station when they were recording and they decided to include it. He still includes them in his live performances as you see here.
