Weekend Wildcard - Get Out The Door by Velvet Revolver

This Weekend's Wildcard is Get Out The Door by Velvet Revolver off of their 2007 album Libertad. This was their second and, unfortunately, final album. This has always been one of my favorites of theirs. The solo reminds me a lot of Rocket Queen with the use of the talk box. Just overall awesome bluesy rock song. It's about picking up a girl to find out later that she is a transgender woman. Probably a true story of Scott's.

"Come on closer, won't you tell me what you got?
Wait a minute, girl, you're something that you're not"

"Like Transformers, girl, there's more than meets the eye
Another beer and then I might end up buyin'"

RIP Scott!!!

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Electric Head Pt. 1 (The Agony) by White Zombie

So I bought a used copy of White Zombie's Astro Creep 2000 yesterday and I played it in the car today on the way home. I had the windows rolled down, the volume to 11, head banging, and was really struggling not to speed too much.

Today's Metal Track is the opening track off of that album, Electric Head Pt. 1 (The Agony). I was talking with Jimmy not that long ago and we had differing opinions on which album was better, this one or La Sexorcisto. It had been a long time since I listened to Astro Creep but I'm starting to agree with Jimmy that it is the better of the two.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Hank is Dead by Red Fang

Radio? Who needs a radio? Just bring all your instruments with you in the car.

Wanna see three long haired bearded guys in a shower? Me neither but you are about to along with some air guitar and of course Pabst. Today's Metal Track is Hank is Dead by Red Fang. This is off of their 2011 album Murder the Mountains.

Scott's Metal Track of Day - War Pigs (Live) by Black Sabbath

Today's Metal Track is one of the most iconic songs from the Godfathers of Heavy Metal, Black Sabbath. War Pigs is the opening track off of their 1970 album Paranoid which is on of the most influential albums in metal history.

The song originated from some of the bands jam sessions at The Beat Club in Switzerland. The guys had to play multiple sets and when they ran out of material, they turn to jam sessions. I chose the live version 1) because it's an awesome performance (Especially Ward on drums), 2) because I didn't like the other studio versions posted for various reasons, and 3) This contains alternate lyrics compared to the studio version.

The instrumental outro is know as Luke's Wall.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Blood Eagle Wings by Anthrax

Today's Metal Track is Blood Eagle Wings by Anthrax. Be warned, this is one of the most brutal videos I've ever seen. The song is great too. This is from their newest album For All Kings which came out back in February. I think I'm going to have to go buy it now. I keep forgetting.

Apparently Blood Eagle was a real thing. Although, some question if it actually happened or if it was created in literary fiction. It's is depicted in the video as being performed towards the end on the central victim. Yeesh.

Spoiler alert (It's also in the video title): If you make it through to the end you will see the unveiling of comedian and huge metal fan Brian Posehn alongside Metalocalypse creator Brendan Small. "That was brutal" lol.

Scott's Instrumental Metal Track of the Day - Meridian by Intervals

Today's Instrumental Metal Track is Meridian by Intervals. This is off of the newest album The Shape of Colour which was just released this past December. I wonder if that is a nod to Foo Fighters' The Colour and the Shape. It's almost gotta be.

This band pretty much split up last year with Anup and Lukas leaving after differences in opinion on the direction the band should go; instrumental or not. So now Aaron is the only member left. He brought in Cameron McLellan from Protest The Hero to play bass and Travis Orbin from Darkest Hour and  Periphery to play drums.

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track - Adore by Prince

One more in the honor of the late Prince. Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is Adore off of his 1987 double album Sign of the Times.

"This condition I got is crucial, crucial baby
You could say that I'm a terminal case
You could burn up my clothes
Smash up my ride, well maybe not the ride"

lol, Prince said he's not going quite that far.

Sidenote: I finally found this on some foreign website (Still looks like Youtube). Like I mentioned before, Prince was extremely against his music being shared on sites like YouTube. It's interesting that he has not been as criticized like Metallica has and what they were fighting was actual stealing.

Weekend Wildcard - Let's Go Crazy by Prince

Dearly beloved
We are gathered here today
To get through this thing called life
Electric word life
It means forever and that's a mighty long time
But I'm here to tell you
There's something else
The after world
A world of never ending happiness
You can always see the sun, day or night
In honor of the passing of the legendary Prince this Weekend's Wildcard is Let's Go Crazy. This is the opening track off of his 1984 album and film Purple Rain. This is the official music video which compresses the intro lyrics above from the studio version. I have the album but the studio version is difficult to find on YouTube as Prince was extremely protective over his music.

Let's hope the after world is a little more Purple today.

Here is a live version with the full intro

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Stranded by Gojira

Gojira is not due up in the rotation for awhile but Adam just made me aware that Gojira released their new single yesterday and it's awesome. This is Stranded off of the French metal band's upcoming album titled Magma. I can't wait to hear the rest of the album.

And don't worry, I'll get back to Prince tomorrow.

Track of the Day - Live Performance of While My Guitar Gently Weeps (RIP Prince) Hijacked by Stone

I decided to hijack your track of the day just for the Prince solo at the end and then his magical teleportation of his guitar into Valhalla. Be sure to watch this til the end of his solo.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Melting of My Marrow by Killer Be Killed

Back to back super groups. Today's Metal Track is Melting of My Marrow by Killer Be Killed. This is off of their 2015 self-titled debut album. The band features members from Mastodon, Soulfly, The Dillinger Escape Plan, and Converge.

Another super group was announced (or re-announced since it was first mentioned 4 years ago) recently that will also feature members from Mastodon and The Dillinger Escape Plans as well as The Mars Volta, Alice In Chains, and, get this, Juliette Lewis! The will go by the name of Giraffe Tongue Orchestra. Will be interesting.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Dying Song by Metal Allegiance

Today's Metal Track is Dying Song by the supergroup Metal Allegiance. This is another off of their 2015 self-titled debut album. The core members are Alex Skolnick, Mike Portnoy, and Mark Menghi. For this song, they brought in Phil Anselmo to provide some cool doomy vocals which reflect more of his style with Down than it does his time with Pantera.

Scott's Intrumental Metal Track of the Day - Shouting Fire at a Funeral by Jeff Loomis

Today's Instrumental Metal Track is Shouting Fire at a Funeral by Jeff Loomis. This is off of his 2008 album Zero Order Phase. This playthrough is a promo video he did for Line 6. Even though this has no lyrics I'm pretty sure the moral of the story is to not scream fire at a funeral.

My favorite YouTube Comment: "Jeff Loomis can make a potato sound good"

Here is another playthrough with bandmate Joe Nurre:

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track - All Out Of Love by Air Supply

Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is All Out Of Love by the Australian soft rock duo Air Supply. This is off of their 1980 album Lost in Love. It's been covered by many artists and used in numerous TV shows. When I hear it I always think of the South Park episode where Wendy breaks up with Stan.

Weekend Wildcard - Animaniacs Theme Song

In honor of Animaniacs coming to Netflix this month, this Weekend's Wildcard is the Animaniacs Theme Song. Jack has been watching this nonstop for the past two weeks. I'm sure many of you, like me, grew up watching this outstanding cartoon that is still fun to watch as an adult. To top it off, the theme song is one of the best that I can remember. Those are the facts...

Scott's Funky Metal Track of the Day - Violent & Funky by Infectious Grooves

You Want Funky?
We Got Funky
What Kind of Funky?
Violent & Funky

Today's Funky Metal Track is Violent & Funky by Infectious Grooves. That is future Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo throwing down some violent funky bass lines. This is the opening track off of their 1994 concept album Groove Family Cyco/Snapped Lika Mutha.

What an awesome bass line/lead riff!

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Stength of the Mind by Killswitch Engage

Today's Metal Track is Strength of the Mind by Killswitch Engage. This is the lead single off of their newest album titled Incarnate which was just released last month. On his second album back with the band, Jesse seems to be hitting his stride once again. Just like riding a Big Huge Metal Bike.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Shock Me by Baroness

Today's Metal Track is Shock Me by Baroness. This is another from their most recent album Purple which came out last year. This new video was just released last week though. I hate I missed them that last time they came around. Hope to catch them again soon.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Harmony Korine by Steven Wilson

Probably a little liberal with the Metal tag again here but this song is fantastic no matter what label you place on it. Even ex-Megadeth drummer, Nick Menza, loves it as shown in the top comment for the video.

Today's Metal Track is Harmony Korine by Steven Wilson. This is the opening track and lead single off of his debut 2008 album Insurgentes. The surreal imagery and style used in the video is a nod to some old classic European films that I know nothing about. It looks awesome though.

Scott's Instrumental Track of the Day - Brian May Solo

Today's Instrumental Track doesn't have a name. It's just Brian May being awesome for 10 minutes. Well, I guess you could name it that. He does some pretty cool harmony stuff in the beginning with the use of the delay. The video of Freddie is a nice touch too.

I love the YouTube comment "He and his dad built those sneakers from scratch. Amazing."

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track - Are the Good Times Really Over by Merle Haggard

Another in the honor of the passing of the great Merle Haggard. Everyone has heard this song but you might think the name would be "Snowball headed for hell" or some variation of the famous chorus. This is Are the Good Times Really Over off of his 1982 album Big City.

The good times are over for you Merle but I'd venture to say you had enough good times in your 79 years to fill many lifetimes. RIP!

Weekend Wildcard - Mama Tried by Merle Haggard

And I turned 21 in prison doing life without parole,
No one could steer me right but Mama tried, Mama tried

In honor of the passing of the late great Merle Haggard, this Weekend's Wildcard is Mama Tried. This is the lead single and title track off of his 1968 album by the same name. It is semi-autobiographical because while Merle was sentenced to prison at the age of 21 he was not given life without parole.

RIP Merle!

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - War Princess by Devin Townsend

[Blattaria:] I'm still confused... why Earth? What is there? What is this 'coffee' you speak of?
[Poozer meeps]
[Blattaria:] … you don't say! My love, gather your brothers!

Today's Metal Track is another from Devin Townsend's 2014 double album Z². This song comes after one of the Poozers returns from Earth via the wormhole to the War Princess (Blattaria, voiced by Dominique Lenore Persi). She learns that he was kidnapped by Ziltoid and the Poozer tells her about this magical thing called coffee that can be found on Earth.

The War Princess then prepares her army of Poozers to return through the wormhole to attack Earth. She commands them to build three weapons for their attack.

[Blattaria:] I'm sorry, there must be some sort of misunderstanding, let me try to explain this again, you see: We are going to invade the earth, and you will follow...

We shall follow...

[Blattaria:] FOR I'M YOUR QUEEN!!!

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Ol'e Nessie by Mastodon

Ol'e Nessie get off my lawn, I ain't giving you no Tree Fiddy!

Today's Metal Track is Ol'e Nessie by Mastodon. This is off of their 2002 debut album Remission. I've always loved this song and not just for the sweet name. It's a great mix of their atmospheric melodic side mixed in with their raw sludge metal that Remission is known for.

And don't think I forgot about Merle. I see plenty of people paying their respects already. I'll have something for Saturday's track. RIP

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Idle Hands by Shadows Fall

Today's Metal Track is Idle Hands by Shadows Fall. This is the opening track off of their 2002 album The Art of Balance. The title of the album is a reference to the band finding a balance between melody and aggression.

Scott's Instrumental Metal Track of the Day - Wave of Babies by Animals As Leaders

Today's Instrumental Metal Track is Wave of Babies by Animals As Leaders. This was a non-album single released on iTunes in 2010. They later included it as a bonus track on the 2015 Encore version of their 2009 self-titled debut album.

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track - Time in a Bottle by Jim Croce

Inspired by the new Apple commercial featuring the Cookie Monster, today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is Time in a Bottle by Jim Croce. This is off of his 1972 album You Don't Mess Around with Jim. He wrote this song after his wife told him she was pregnant with their son Adrian.

Sadly, Jim died in a plane crash the following year which made the lyrics of the song even more meaningful. He was only 30 years old. It was then released as a single and became a #1 hit. That is why you see this video list it as 1973 vs. 1972.

Weekend Wildcard - Ms. Jackson by Outkast

This Weekend's Wildcard is Ms. Jackson by Outkast. This is off of their 2000 album Stankonia. Whenever I hear this song it takes me back to football practice sophomore year at Southern Vance. This came out that fall and we used to sing it during practice.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - The Moor by Opeth

Today's Metal Track is another outstanding track by one of the best metal bands of all time, Opeth. The Moor is the opening track off of their 1999 album Still Life. I've been listening to this album more and more in recent years and it definitely holds its own among the great Opeth albums.
