Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Pale King by Testament

Today's Metal Track is Pale King by Testament. This is off of their Brotherhood of the Snake album which just came out in October. This song is chocked full of tight and crisp riffs by Skolnick and Peterson. My favorite part though is the outro following the last solo.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Guerilla Radio by Rage Against the Machine

It has to start somewhere
It has to start sometime
What better place than here?
What better time than now?

Today's Metal Track is Guerilla Radio by Rage Against the Machine off of their 1999 album The Battle of Los Angeles. This song speaks of the exploitation of garment workers at the hands of companies like Gap. The workers shown at the beginning of the video are actual Unite! union workers playing themselves. The video even spoofs the popular Gap commercials with the band playing against an all white background.

Lights Out
Guerilla Radio
Turn that $#!+ Up!

RIP Lemmy

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Blazing Star by Dethklok

Today's Metal Track is Blazing Star by Dethklok. This song comes from their 2013 special Metalocalypse: The Doomstar Requiem. I still have yet to watch the whole thing.

And since Star Wars is all the rage right now I'd like to remind you that Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) is one of the voice actors on the show. Which is also the connection I'm making to say RIP Carrie Fisher :(

Weekend Wildcard - Thirty-Three by The Smashing Pumpkins

Tomorrow's just an excuse away
So I pull my collar up and face the cold... on my own

Well I hate to go against my rule of no re-posts but I have to today for my birthday. This Weekend's Wildcard is Thirty-Three by The Smashing Pumpkins. This is off of their 1995 double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.

The sun is out and up and down again
I know I'll make it, love can last forever
Graceful swans of never topple to the earth
And you can make it last, forever you

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Ashes Ashes by Napalmpom

Heard this track on Shameless today and decided to look it up. It is used in the closing scenes where Carl punches a kid who is trying to haze him. No one messes with him after that. Never heard of the band before but this is pretty jamming track. You can tell from the YouTube comments that a lot of other folks discovered it the same way I did.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Alaska by Between the Buried and Me

Today's Metal Track is Alaska by Between the Buried and Me. This is the title track off of their 2005 album by the same name. This song is pretty brutal and may be too much for many. But that intro is so sweet I don't know how you couldn't like it.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Bodies by Danzig

Today's Metal Track is Bodies by Danzig. This is off of their 1992 album Danzig III: How the Gods Kill. Chuck makes the drums look so fun to play in the video. Not quite as much as the ZZ Top cover band dude, but still fun.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Harbinger by Protest the Hero

Today's Metal Track is Harbinger by Protest the Hero. This is off of their latest album Pacific Myth which was just released last year. The band decided to ditch the record labels and go the crowdfunding route for this album.

I wish I had been paying closer attention and check out what they were doing. They had exclusive pre-order options like $10 digital downloads that would put your name in the thank you list on the digital liner notes. Probably the most interesting option was $1,250 to attend a pizza party with three friends at one of the band member's house.

Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is Bettie Davis Eyes by Kim Carnes. This track was originally written and composed in 1974 by Donna Weiss and Jackie DeShannon and recorded by DeShannon later that year. It did not become a hit until it was recorded by Kim in 1981 for her Mistaken Identity album. The song won both Song and Record of the year at the 1982 Grammy Awards.

Weekend Wildcard - Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins

Unleash your inner Archer and enjoy this Weekend's Wildcard. This is Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins. It is another outstanding song composed by the great Giorgio Moroder. And just in case you have been living under rock, this song was written for the film Top Gun.

At the time this video came out the Navy claimed it was "the most effective recruiting poster ever produced."

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Bloodline by Slayer

Today's Metal Track is Bloodline by Slayer. I was fortunate enough to see them live earlier this year and was extremely impressed with their performance. I assumed they would be mailing it in at this point but they definitely crushed it!

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Secular Haze by Ghost

Today's Metal Track is Secular Haze by Ghost. This is off of the Swedish metal band's 2013 album Infestissumam. They did a good job making this video look and feel like it was from the 70s.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Hourglass by Lamb of God

You finally made it home
Draped in the flag that you fell for
And so it goes
The ashes of the wake
It's only getting worse...

Today's Metal Track is Hourglass by Lamb of God. This is off of their 2003 album Ashes of the Wake.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Governed by Contagions by At the Drive In

Today's Metal Track is a brand new track from At The Drive In. This is the first new material released by the band since I believe 2000. This was Omar and Cedric's band prior to them forming The Mars Volta. I was bummed when The Mars Volta broke up but as I was telling Jamie, as long as these two are making music together, I don't care what they call it.

This outstanding track is Governed by Contagions. Can't wait to hear what else they come out with in 2017.

Scott's Instrumental Metal Track of the Day - Pastures by Plini

Today's Instrumental Metal Track is Pastures by Plini. This is off of his debut album Handmade Cities which came out earlier this year. This is a remix of a song he recorded about 5 years ago with a previous project named Halcyon.

Weekend Wildcard - What I Like About You by The Romantics

This Weekend's Wildcard is What I Like About You by the Romantics. This is off of their 1980 self-titled debut album. The band sued Activision because they used a soundalike version of the song in their Guitar Hero game which allowed them to no pay royalties to the band. The judge ultimately decided in favor of the game developer.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Parabola by Tool

Today's Metal Track is Parabola by Tool. This is off of their 2001 album Lateralus. The music video includes the three minute song Parabol which is the lead-in to Parabola on the album. As much as Tool likes numerical references, I'm surprised they didn't title the song y=x^2 which is the basic function for a parabola.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Primal Concrete Sledge by Pantera

Today marks 12 years since the legendary Dimebag was tragically taken from us. In his honor, today's Metal Track is Primal Concrete Sledge off of their 1990 album Cowboys From Hell. Most fans consider this their true debut album. The song clocks in at a mere 2:13. I never really noticed that it was that short growing up. The YouTube clip has a minute of silence at the end. As one comment mention, a minute of silence for Dime.

RIP Dimebag!!!

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Leave Me Alone by Jerry Cantrell

Today's Metal Track is Leave Me Alone by Jerry Cantrell. This was Jerry's first ever solo recording and came after Alice in Chains last album with Layne Staley. The song features Jerry's AIC band mate, Sean Kinney, on drums.

It was recorded for The Cable Guy soundtrack in 1996 and was used to promote the movie with through this music video. I believe it played during the closing credits of the movie. I love that movie!

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Luna by Deafheaven

Today's Metal Track is Luna by Deafheaven. This is off of their newest album New Bermuda which came out last year. I don't know how the drummer does it. I would pass out. I know there is a lot going on here but don't give up on it too easily. If it is too heavy, at least listen from 6:05 on.

Scott's Instrumental Metal Track of the Day (Hosted by Donovan) - Violence of the Red Sea by Earthless

Today's Instrumental track is by Earthless, a "stoner metal" trio from San Diego, and they're playing at King's in downtown Raleigh this Sunday!

There's elements of Hendricks and Zeppelin, along with Japanese and even German psychedelic rock in their music. Most songs are 20+ minutes long, and are all impressive.

Bill Burr saw them, and described them perfectly in his Podcast

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track - Don't You (Forget About Me) by Simple Minds

Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey, today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is Don't You (Forget About Me) by Simple Minds. This was released on The Breakfast Club soundtrack in 1985. It was featured in the opening and closing credit of the film. Since then it has been used in numerous films and TV shows including American Pie, Futurama, Family Guy, Pitch Perfect, and Bob's Burgers.

The band initially turn down the song but reluctantly accepted after encouragement from their label. They didn't like the idea of recording music they didn't record. The band did rearrange it before recording it so they deserve some credit for that. Prior to the song being offered Simple Minds, the song was turned down by The Fixx, Bryan Ferry, and Billy Idol.

Weekend Wildcard - She's a Beauty by The Tubes

This Weekend's Wildcard is She's a Beauty by The Tubes. This is off of their 1983 album Inside Outside. This is one of those songs you likely won't remember until you hear it.

"She'll give you every penny's worth
but it will cost you a dollar first"

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Cassandra Gemini by The Mars Volta

Realized today that I haven't posted Mars Volta in awhile. Today's Metal Track is Cassandra Gemini off of their 2005 album Frances the Mute. When the CD was released this 32 minute track was split into track 5 thru 12 because otherwise the band would have only been paid for an EP instead of a full album. STupid record companies. The splits in the song were random and didn't match the song's five movements. If you buy it online today it comes as one track like was intended.

Strap in for a 32 minute jam!

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Alison Hell by Annihilator

Today's Metal Track is Alison Hell by Annihilator. Heard this on the radio on the way home tonight. This is the title track off of the Canadian band's 1989 debut album Alice in Hell. The music video states that this is based on a true story of a little girl in Montreal but I have no idea is if is true or not.
