By special request from Kyle Fox today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is a cover of Nirvana's In Bloom by Sturgill Simpson. Happy New Year everyone! Be safe!
Exploring Heavy Metal and all its glory. Heavy Metal is often misunderstood and thought to be just a bunch of guys banging and screaming when in fact it can be extremely thoughtful, intelligent, and sincere. Expect some throw-down-head-banging, chill mood metal, and gloomy death metal that you're probably not going to hear on the radio. On the weekends we'll mix things up with a Weekend Wildcard and an Easy Like Sunday Morning Track to get you over your hangover!

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Snuff by Slipknot
Bury all your secrets in my skin
Come away with innocence and leave me with my sins
The air around me still feels like a cage
And love is just a camouflage for what resembles rage again
Today's Metal Track is beautiful little song by Slipknot called Snuff. That sounds weird doesn't it. But it's true. I was surprised to find out this was their most successful song to date.

This is off of their 2008 album All Hope is Gone. I never knew there was a video for this song and boy is it a good/strange one. It even has Malcolm McDowell in it.
From Corey: "This is the slow one. It's another personal one. Again, not naming names, it's about someone who helped me through a lot and I thought she felt the same way that I did and then she really let me down. At the same time, it was good that she did, because it was that final push to me figuring out myself. The lyrics are pretty self-explanatory"

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Thrown Into the Fire by Trivium
Forgive them Father, for they not know!
Now THIS is the Trivium I fell in love with and never thought I would hear again. After Matt blew his voice out a few years back he had to switch to all clean vocals. It just wasn't the same. It was missing that edge, that heaviness that you could feel when it kicked you in the gut. This is the closing track off of their album The Sin and the Sentence which just came out last week and boy is it a doozy. The whole album is great but this track is one of the best I've ever heard from them. It destroys \m/
This is Thrown Into the Fire
Be careful, I'm pretty sure they hit the infamous brown note in the intro.

Oh my dear, Heaven is a big band now!
This Weekend's Wildcard is The Sky is a Neighborhood by the Foo Fighters off of their new album Concrete and Gold. He said that the atoms that make up our bodies and everything on earth are traceable back to the beginnings of the universe. See the video below.
Dave also directed this video and his two daughters, Violet and Harper, are the two girls in the video.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Less Than by Nine Inch Nails
Today's Metal Track is brand new Nine Inch Nails. This is Less Than off of their upcoming EP Add Violence which comes out next week. The video pays homage to an old urban legend about a game titled Polybius.
From Wikipedia: The urban legend is that the game was part of a government-run crowdsourced psychology experiment, with gameplay producing intense psychoactive and addictive effects in the player. These few publicly staged arcade machines were said to have been visited periodically by men in black for the purpose of data-mining the machines and analyzing these effects. Finally, all of these Polybius arcade machines allegedly disappeared from the arcade market.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Curl of the Burl by Mastodon
I killed a man, cause he killed my goat
Today's Metal Track is Curl of the Burl by Mastodon. This is the opening Track off of their 2011 album The Hunter.
About the song:
The burl is the knot that’s found in various trees — it’s almost like a cancer of trees. Within that burl are unique swirls or curls. A lot of people will cut those down and sell them to wood-makers, wood sculptors, and furniture makers because it’s got a unique design to it. And this is a true story which happens in the Pacific Northwest — a lot of people go out in the woods with chainsaws, they find these burls, they cut them down, they load their pickup trucks with these burls, take them in to town sell them to various wood-makers, take the money from that, purchase more meth, go back in the woods and continue that circle of insanity. So it’s based on a true story. People will steal your cars, steal copper…and people will go out there in the woods and steal burls.

Weekend Wildcard - Rock the Casbah by The Clash
This Weekend's Wildcard Rock the Casbah by The Clash. This is off of their 1982 album Combat Rock. This song was inspired by the ban on Western music in Iran following the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
In the song, pilots who were instructed to bomb people listening to music would blast music on their cockpit radios instead. The citizens then started dancing to the music or in other words, Rock the Casbah. A casbah was a fortress in India for the local leader to live and a defense when a city was under attack.

Today's Metal Track is The Holy Drinker by Steven Wilson. This proggy track is off of his 2013 album The Raven That Refused to Sing (And other Stories).
According to Wilson, "The Holy Drinker" concerns "a guy who’s very pious, very religious, preachy and self-righteous. I’m thinking of TV evangelist-types – guys who are prepared to tell people that they’re living their lives wrong and that they’re missing something because they don’t believe in God or whatever it is." The man, who, despite criticizing other people's lifestyles, is himself an alcoholic, unwittingly challenges the Devil to a drinking competition, with disastrous consequences: "Of course, you can’t beat the Devil at a drinking competition – you can’t beat the Devil at anything – and so he loses. ... He gets dragged to Hell."

Weekend Wildcard - Ramblin' Man by Allman Brothers Band RIP Gregg
My father was a gambler down in Georgia,
And he wound up on the wrong end of a gun.
And I was born in the back seat of a Greyhound bus
Rollin' down highway 41.
Lord, I was born a ramblin' man
In honor of the passing of Gregg Allman, this Weekend's Wildcard is Ramblin' Man by Allman Brothers Band. This is off of their 1973 album Brothers and Sisters. RIP Gregg!

Why can't you see that you are my child,
Why don't you know that you are my mind,
Tell everyone in the world, that I'm you,
Take this promise to the end of you.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Soul-Crusher by White Zombie
Today's Metal Track is Soul-Crusher by White Zombie. This is off of their 1992 album La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Volume One. Interestingly, their 1987 debut album was titled Soul-Crusher. I'm not sure if there is any connection between the two other than the name.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Here Comes Revenge by Metallica
Today's Metal Track is Here Comes Revenge off of Metallica's newest album. While it is my second favorite song, next to Spit Out the Bone, it is definitely my favorite video.
Some videos detract from the song, some are just meh, and a few, like this one, enhance the song. I can't listen to the song without thinking of this dark and awesome video. Jessica Cope, who also directed some of Steven Wilson's videos, did an excellent job with this. I'm not sure what to call her style, but I like it.

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track - Seasons by Chris Cornell
One last track in memory of the late Chris Cornell. Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is Seasons which was featured in the 1992 movie Singles and again in the 2013 movie Man of Steel. I don't think I ever watched either of these movies but this song is great. Looks like I should at least watch Singles. Chris even makes a cameo appearance in the film.
And I'm lost behind
The words I'll never find
And I'm left behind
As seasons roll on by
RIP Chris!

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Reach Down by Temple of the Dog RIP Chris Cornell
Back in 1990 Chris Cornell formed a band to pay tribute to his friend, Andrew Wood, who died of a heroin overdose. Andrew was the lead singer of Mother Love Bone and was Chris's roommate at the time he passed.
In the aftermath of this tragedy came the formation of Pearl Jam. All 5 current members of Pearl Jam were in this band. But without a doubt, Chris Cornell steals the show on this album. RIP Chris!

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Fell on Black Days by Soundgarden RIP Chris Cornell
Man, I haven't been this bummed about a musician dying since Dime back in 2004. When I first saw it this morning I thought it must have been a hoax. Hard to tell what's going on in people's lives. If you or someone you know is suffering from depression, please get help. RIP Chris. Your voice will live on!
Today's Track is Fell on Black Days off of their 1994 album Superunkown.
Chris: "Fell on Black Days" was like this ongoing fear I've had for years...It's a feeling that everyone gets. You're happy with your life, everything's going well, things are exciting—when all of a sudden you realize you're unhappy in the extreme, to the point of being really, really scared. There's no particular event you can pin the feeling down to, it's just that you realize one day that everything in your life is F@#!ed!
Right in the feels :(
