You will never...
Give the power...
To the powerless
Today's Metal Track is In Effigy by Shadows Fall. This is the opening track off of their 2006 compilation album Fallout From the War. The album title is a reference to their 2004 album The War Within. This album was looked at as a companion album as many of the songs were written during the sessions for The War Within.
Exploring Heavy Metal and all its glory. Heavy Metal is often misunderstood and thought to be just a bunch of guys banging and screaming when in fact it can be extremely thoughtful, intelligent, and sincere. Expect some throw-down-head-banging, chill mood metal, and gloomy death metal that you're probably not going to hear on the radio. On the weekends we'll mix things up with a Weekend Wildcard and an Easy Like Sunday Morning Track to get you over your hangover!

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track - I've Always Been Crazy by Waylon Jennings
I've always been crazy,
But it's kept me from going insane
Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is I've Always Been Crazy by Waylon Jennings. This is the opening and title track off of his 1978 album by the same name. Waylon was one of the original outlaws of country music. The Outlaw Country movement was a response to the overproduced pop style that was taking over Nashville. I bet Waylon is rolling in his grave right now with what country music has become.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Shooting Star by Gojira
Today's Metal Track is Shooting Star by Gojira. This is the opening track off of the French metal band's most recent album, Magma, which came out last year. This is pretty slow paced song compared to most of their songs.
Avoid the darkness, stay away, stay out of sight
Until you feel the blast of a shooting star

Weekend Wildcard - Working for the Weekend by Loverboy
Everybody's working for the Weekend!
What better song for a Weekend Wildcard than Working for the Weekend by Loverboy! This is off of their 1981 album Get Lucky.
If you are like me, you can't hear this song and not think of the classic SNL skit by two of the late great actors, Swayze and Farley. RIP

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - New Machine by Overkill
We are the children of a new regime
We are the children of a new machine
This seems fitting for today's Presidential inauguration. Today's Metal Track is New Machine by Overkill. This is off of their 1991 album Horrorscope. Whether you like Trump or not, it does not change the fact that Overkill are still the best in the business when it comes to good old fashion Thrash Metal!

Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is Santeria by Sublime. This is off of their 1996 self-titled, major label debut album which would also be their last. Sadly, guitarist Bradley Nowell died from a heroin overdose two months before the album was released. Stock footage of Nowell was used for the music video. And yes, that is Deebo in the video.

Today's Metal Track is Surrogate by The Dillinger Escape Plan. This is off of their final album, Dissociation, which was released in October. I absolutely love the break down at 1:30. My only complaint is it is not longer.

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track - Cats in the Cradle by Harry Chapin
Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is Cats in the Cradle by Harry Chapin off of his 1974 album Verities & Balderdash. This song is about the relationship between a father and son. As stated in the video, Harry's wife, Sandy, wrote the poem the song is based on. I first heard this song when Ugly Kid Joe covered it back in 1992.
The father makes up excuses for why he can't spend time with his son and the son accepts the excuses and says he wants to grow up to be just him. Later in the story the tables turn and the son makes up excuses for why he can't spend time with his dad.
I'm sure this hits home with all fathers out there. It's hard to do everything they ask, but I do think about this song when I have to tell them no.
"And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me, he'd grown up just like me.
My boy was just like me."
Here is the Ugly Kid Joe Version which I think is great:

Looking for me
Every single night
They're driving me insane
Those men inside my brain
This Weekend's Wildcard is Dream Police by Cheap Trick. This is the title track off of their 1979 album by the same name. This is a great track that is extremely catchy. You will definitely have the chorus stuck in your head.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Gave Up by Nine Inch Nails
So I'm not sure how I missed this gem along the way but today's Metal Track is Gave Up by Nine Inch Nails. This is off of the 1992 EP Broken. This was Trent's major label debut following their 1989 debut studio album Pretty Hate Machine.
There is another video for this that was part of a film also titled broken. But it was rightfully deemed to be too graphic (Seriously, go look it up if you dare, I'm not posting it here). So this alternate video was filmed which includes a young Marilyn Manson singing backup vocals and playing guitar.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Slo-Mo-Tion by MArilyn Manson
Today's Metal Track is Slo-Mo-Tion by Marilyn Manson off of his 2012 album Born Villain. This graphic, awesome, creepy, NSFW, weird, creative, and controversial video is the embodiment of Manson. In fact, he directed the video himself. I really like the neon paint scenes. I bought this album when it came out but never watched this video before today
And totally missed this at first but that is Stevie Janowski from East Bound and Down with the rubber boobies, lol!

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Porcelain Heart by Opeth
Today's Metal Track is Porcelain Heart by Opeth. This is off of their 2008 album Watershed. Nice back and forth between heavy and acoustic. It also includes a neat little drum solo that may sound a little weird at first because it's layered over the chords.
But of course the best part it the "Ah, ah, ahh. Ah, ah, ahh. Ah, ah, ahhh ha. Ah, ah ahhhhh"
