Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Dimmu Borgir by Dimmu Borgir

It's not uncommon for band's to have self-titled albums. Sometimes they have multiple self-titled albums. But not often do you see self-titled songs. I know there are some out there, Bad Company comes to mind, but definitely not common.

Today's Metal Track is Dimmu Borgir by, you guessed it, Dimmu Borgir. This is off of the Norwegian band's 2010 album Abrahadabra. The band and song are named after a volcanic formation in Iceland and means 'dark cities'.

Scott's Instrumental Metal Track of the Day - Lost in the Headlights by Pelican

Today's Instrumental Metal Track is Lost in the Headlights by Pelican. This is off of their 2007 album City of Echoes. The video is a sequel to the video for Dead Between the Walls which is shown on the TV set at the beginning of the video. In that video, the bearded guy with the microphone finally meets up with the band and is ready to start singing when they stop playing. This video shows the same bearded guy searching for the band only meet the same result.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Blood, Milk, and Sky by White Zombie

Today's Metal Track is Blood, Milk, and Sky by White Zombie. This is the closing track off of their 1995 album Astro-Creep: 2000. I love this track. There is not a lot to it but it really grows on you. It's super chill.

Wash away into the rain
Blood, milk and sky
Hollow moons illuminate
And beauty never dies

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Atlas, Rise! by Metallica

In honor of the dude with the sweet Metallica shirt at the game tonight, today's Metal Track is Atlas, Rise! off of their newest album Hardwired... To Self-Destruct. This is one of my favorite tracks off of the album with its relentless shredding. I love almost all the songs on there though. This one has a definite Maiden feel to it. The outtakes in the video are pretty cool too.

Hetfield's voice is strong throughout the album and especially on this track:
Masquerade as maker!
Heavy is the crown!

Here is the shirt from tonight

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Mean, Green, Killing Machine by Overkill

Today's Metal Track is brand new thrash metal by Overkill. Mean, Green, Killing Machine is the opening track off of their new album Grinding Wheel which just came out today! If you didn't already know, green is like the bands official color as it is dominant in most of their artwork. These guys are some of the hardest working guys in metal. This is their 18th album and they are still bringing it.

Dog will hunt!

Today's Funky Metal Track is Jerry Was a Race Car Driver by Primus. This is off of their 1991 album Sailing the Seas of Cheese. The "Dog will hunt" line is sampled from the movie Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. I always assumed it was just Les Claypool because it sounds just like him.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Wills Dissolve by Isis

Today marks the first time a complete album has been posted to the blog. This is the last remaining song to be posted from the outstanding 2004 album Panopticon by Isis. Every song on this album is great, it's hard to pick a favorite. This is one of my favorite albums to play while at work due to its ambient feel.

And with that we bid farewell to this post-metal masterpiece. Maybe one day down the road I'll throw in a few repeats and include a few songs again.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - N.W.O. by Ministry

Today's Metal Track is N.W.O. by Ministry. This is the opening track off of their 1992 album Psalm 69. Mike Thompson mentioned this earlier today which gave me the idea to post it. I didn't notice it, but Mike heard this playing at the Super Bowl last night. It's funny because George H. Bush was an honored guest at the Super Bowl and this is an Anti-Bush song. The song even includes audio samples of George's speech proclaiming a New World Order.

The song also features a clip of Dennis Hopper's line "It's alright, It's alright" from the film Apocalypse Now.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Iron Man by Black Sabbath

Today's Metal Track a classic from Black Sabbath's 1970 album Paranoid. Iron Man has one of the most iconic riffs in all of heavy metal. Surprisingly the song was not connect in any way to the comic book character that originated 7 years prior to the release of this song. However, the band and song were later featured in the Iron Man and Avengers films. In the former, an instrumental version is included in the credits and in the latter, Tony Stark can be seen sporting a Black Sabbath T-Shirt.

Instead, the song is about a man who travels to the future, witnesses the apocalypse, and returns to the present to warn mankind. On the way back he is caught in a magnetic field where he is turned into steel which leaves him mute. He is unable to warn people and is ignored and mocked to the point where he becomes angry and seeks revenge on mankind.
