Scott's Metal Tack of the Day - For Whom the Bell Tolls by Metallica

For a hill men would kill, why? They do not know
Stiffened wounds test their pride

Today's Metal Track is one of Metallica's most famous songs next to the likes of Enter Sandman and Master of Puppets. You hear on third downs in football stadiums across the nation and even hockey arenas. It's been so popular that I've grown tired of it over the years. Seems like every TV spot they've had over the past 20 years has included this track. But that doesn't make it any less awesome. Today I played it for Jack for the first time and he dug it.

What makes this song is Cliff Burton's outstanding bass. Most people probably don't realize that the main riff in the song is actually the bass. I mean the bass isn't suppose to sound like that right? That's exactly the reason James and Lars went after Cliff when they heard him in the club that night.

That's why I chose this version for Today's Metal Track. It comes from their performance at Day On The Green in 1985. When I think of Cliff I think of this performance with him wailing on the bass and his head banging with that glorious hair flowing in the wind. A true legend. RIP Cliff!

This if For Whom the Bell Tolls off of their 1984 album Ride The Lightning.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Unholy Confessions by Avenged Sevenfold

I'll TRY!!!
She said as he walked away
Try not to lose you

Now time Stover's request. In honor or Eric becoming a dad last week, today's Metal Track is Unholy Confessions by Avenged Sevenfold. This is off of their 2003 album Waking the Fallen. This has always been my favorite from these guys but I'll admit I am not intimately familiar with all of their work.

I could have sworn I posted this before but I can't find any record of it. Worth a double post if so.

Today's hilarious Easy Like Sunday Morning Track comes by way of special request from Kyle Fox. In 2015, Jon Benjamin, best know for voicing Archer and Bob's Burgers, hire a jazz band to record a jazz album with him. But what he didn't tell them is he doesn't know how to play the piano, lol. This is I Can't Play Piano, Pt.1 off of  Well, I Should Have... (Learned How to Play Piano).

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Without a Face by Rage Against the Machine

Today's Metal Track is Without a Face by Rage Against the Machine. This is off of their 1996 album Evil Empire. The song comes from the point of view of an illegal immigrant in the United States.

'Cause every sidewalk I walk is like a tightrope
Yes I know my deadline sire, when my life expires
I'm sendin' paper south under tha barbed wire
Tha mother of my child will lose her mind at my grave
It's my life for their life so call it a free trade
'Por vida' and our name up on tha stall
I took a death trip when I tried ta cross tha white wall
Walk unseen past tha graves an tha gates, born without a face

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track - Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper

Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning is a timeless classic by Cyndi Lauper. Time After Time was released in 1983 on her debut album She's So Unusual. This has been featured in more movies and TV shows than I can remember. A couple that come to mind are Stranger Things season 2 and Napolean Dynamite.

In case you were wondering, the movie she is watching at the beginning is the 1936 film Garden of Allah.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Requiem by Killing Joke

Been listening to a bunch of Metallica interviews that came with my Master of Puppets box set lately. It's cool to hear them talk about what they were listening to at the time. It's especially cool to hear the interviews with Cliff who died later that year.

In multiple interviews he mentioned Killing Joke and how much he loved their 1980 self-titled album. As you may already know, Metallica would later cover The Wait from that album on their $5.98 Garage Days Re-Revisted EP. I've been listening to the Killing Joke this week and really dig it. Today's Metal Track is the opening track titled Requiem. The Foo Fighters covered this song and included it on their B-side of their Everlong single.

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track - In My Time of Need by Opeth

"I can't see the meaning of this life
I'm leading I try to forget you as you forgot me
This time there is nothing left for you to take, this is goodbye"

I love the cadence in Mikael's voice in these verses. Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is a beautiful track by the Swedish Death Metal band Opeth. This is off of their 2003 album Damnation which consisted all clean vocals can guitars.

"At times the dark's fading slowly
But it never sustains
Would someone watch over me
In my time of need"

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - 5 Minutes Alone by Pantera

Today's Metal Track is in honor of the father of three daughters who were all sexually assaulted by the despicable Dr. Larry Nasser. Today in court he asked the judge for 5 minutes alone in a locked room with Nasser. When the judge obviously denied his request he went after Nasser in the court room.

This post is not intended to make light of this awful situation but rather to share my sympathy and anger. I can't imagine what these families are going through. I know it's not the way our justice system works, but I would love for this father, and the 100+ other fathers, to have their 5 minutes alone with this monster.

This is 5 Minutes Alone by Pantera off of their 1994 album Far Beyond Driven.
