Today's Metal Track is Inertiatic ESP by The Mars Volta. This is off of the Texas band's 2003 debut album De-Loused and the Comatorium. Flea, from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, filled in on bass for this album after their originally bassist, Eva Gardner, left the band.
Exploring Heavy Metal and all its glory. Heavy Metal is often misunderstood and thought to be just a bunch of guys banging and screaming when in fact it can be extremely thoughtful, intelligent, and sincere. Expect some throw-down-head-banging, chill mood metal, and gloomy death metal that you're probably not going to hear on the radio. On the weekends we'll mix things up with a Weekend Wildcard and an Easy Like Sunday Morning Track to get you over your hangover!

Weekend Wildcard - I Can't Dance by Genesis
Young punk spilling beer on my shoes,
Fat guy's talking to me trying to steal my blues.
Thick smoke, see her smiling through.
I never thought so much could happen just shooting pool.
This Weekend's Wildcard is a classic from Genesis. I Can't Dance was released in 1991 on their album We Can't Dance.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish by A Perfect Circle
Time is money and money's time
We wasted every second dime
On diets, lawyers, shrinks and apps and flags and plastic surgery
Now Willy Wonka, Major Tom, Ali, and Leia have moved on
Signal the final curtain call in all its atomic pageantry
Of the many, many things I am thankful for is great music that is beautiful, thoughtful, inspiring, and intelligent. Today's Metal Track is from one of the greatest artists of our lifetime in Maynard James Keenan. He's best known as the lead singer of Tool but one of his other band's, A Perfect Circle, stands on its on.
This is So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish off of their most recent album, Eat The Elephant, which was released earlier this year. The song title is taken from the book by the same name from the series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Only Us by Thrice
Today's Metal Track is new music by Thrice. This is Only Us off of their latest album Palms which came out back in September.
This is a great nostalgic summer camp video. Of all the shenanigans in the video, the one that makes me cringe is the destroyed cassettes. Kids today won't ever understand that. I still remember my Pantera cassette getting eaten by the cheap tape player we had when I was working at the Peanut Roaster when I was 15. The agony!!!

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - The Baying of the Hounds by Opeth
And so, cold touch now inhumane
Every waking hour
Awaiting a reverie to unfold
And now they are calling me
Louder by the minute
The baying of the hounds
Calling me back to my home
Today's Metal Track is The Baying of the Hounds by Swedish progressive metal legends Opeth. This is off of their 2005 album Ghost Reveries. I believe this is one of Greg Anderson's favorite tracks. Just a monster of song. Too many different good parts to point out.

Scott's Instrumental Metal Track of the Day - Departure by Frames
Today's Instrumental Metal Track is Departure by Frames. This is off of the German band's 2012 album In Via.
The spoken work in the middle of the song is taken from a German poem title Stufen by Hemann Hesse.
Translated:
"Steps"
As every blossom wilts and every youth
Yields to age, so blooms every step of life,
So too blooms every wisdom and every virtue
In its time and may not last forever.
The heart must at all of life’s calls
Be ready to part and begin anew,
So that it may, with courage and without grief,
Give itself to new engagements.
In every beginning lives a magic,
Protecting us and helping us to live.

Scott Instrumental Metal Track of the Day - Bogatyri by We Lost the Sea
Today's Instrumental Metal Track is Bogatyri by the Australian band We Lost the Sea. This is off of their 2015 LP Departure Songs. The guys need to release a new album because I only have one song left on the album to post!
I found the story below on their bandcamp page giving backstory on the song. Pretty sad and cool at the same time.
"Amidst the clean up of the infamous Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster in April of 1986, the authorities discovered that the nuclear reactor was flooded with highly radioactive water. The steam from this volatile water was threatening to cause a massive explosion that would carry radioactive material and gas across a large portion of Europe, they needed to open the floodgates to release the pressure in the chamber and save a large part of Europe from nuclear fallout.
To drain the reactor someone would have to dive into the water and open the release valve by hand.; for anyone involved it meant a certain and painful death.
Three men volunteered, now unofficially known as the suicide squad, they didn’t ask for glory or riches, simply that once they passed their families would be looked after. And so three ordinary men, Valeri Bezpalov, Alexie Ananenko and Boris Baranov did an extraordinary thing, and dove into the depths of the reactor.
After the only lamp they had with them fell into the darkness, the three men felt their way towards the gate, and completed their grim mission by opening the valve.
Ten days later all three were buried in lead coffins.
Ukrainian Folklore tells the story of the Bogatyri, three valiant knights of old."

Scott's Instrumental Metal Track of the Day - Howl by Covet
Today's Instrumental Metal Track is Howl by Covet. Their front-woman, Yvette Young is also an artist who creates unique pieces I imagine similar to what you see in the video. Erich Hoppe saw them with Polyphia Sunday night at Cat's Cradle and said they were great. I hate I missed them. This is off of their album effloresce which came out earlier this year.

Break Down!, and cease all feeling
Burn now, what once was breathing
Reach out, and you may take my heart away
This Weekend's Wildcard is The Leaving Song Pt. II by AFI. This is off of their 2003 album Sing the Sorrow. I remember listening to this a lot back in college but I don't know that I've listened to it in 10 years or more.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - All Out Life by Slipknot
Today's Metal Track is brand new Slipknot and it slays! All Out Life was released just yesterday on Halloween. Adam and I were jamming to it in the garage last night after the kids finished Trick or Treating. The next album is scheduled to be released next summer so this is rather early but I'm not complaining.
