Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Dying Breed by Five Finger Death Punch

Today's Metal Track is Dying Breed by Five Finger Death Punch. This is the opening track off of their 2009 album War is the Answer. I'm not a really big Five Finger Death Punch fan but I like what I've heard off of this album. This song was the last song they recorded vocals for and it was originally supposed to be a bonus track. After they heard the final version, they decided to put it as track 1.

Weekend Wildcard - Renegade by Styx

This Weekend's Wildcard is Renegade by Styx. This is off of their 1979 album Pieces of Eight. Growing up, this was THE Styx song to me. They obviously had many more songs but whenever I thought of Styx it was Renegade. This song is about an outlaw who has been captured for a bounty and is waiting to be executed by hanging.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been using this song as the theme song for their defense since 2001.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Speak by Queensryche

Today's Metal Track is Speak by Queensryche. This is another one off of their concept album Operation: Mindcrime. During this part of the story, the main character, Nikki, feels that the mission he has been brainwashed to undertake is good one. He feels that he is killing for a good cause; for a better future. He would learn later that he was wrong.

They've given me a mission
I don't really know the game yet
I'm bent on submission
Religion is to blame
I'm the new messiah
Death Angel with a gun
Dangerous in my silence
Deadly to my cause

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - The Gears by Dethklok

Today's Metal Track is The Gears by Dethklok. This is off of their 2009 album Dethalbum II. It was originally used on Season 2 of Metalocalypse for the episode Dethsources. This song is about the Klokateers who are the protective servants of the band.

In order to become a Klokateer, candidates go through an extreme vetting process which, among other tests, requires them to pair up and fight to the death. That mean that the mortality rate of simply applying is less than 50%. Brutal. Once candidates pass the test, they are branded with The Gear on the back of their necks.
