Today's Metal Track is Extremophile Elite by Between the Buried and Me. This is off of their 2012 concept album The Parallax II: Future Sequence. This album is about two Prospects that live in two different planes of existence and are separated by billions of years. The two are going through similar dilemmas but become aware of one another. Extremophile refers to the two prospects and is defined as "An organism that thrives in physically or geochemically extreme conditions that are detrimental to most life on Earth."
In this song, Prospect 1 is describing meeting Prospect 2 for the first time. "Space flight navigator, A walking mirror, Galaxy drifter, Entwined together, To grasp the other hand, To hear the other speak".
One cool part in the song is at about the 4:18 mark where Prospect 1 is so annoyed by the loud machines that he puts his head in the dirt. The music stops abruptly leading right into a xylophone solo.
The song concludes with Prospect 2 finding a letter in the place where Prospect 1's head was buried. A letter he had written for his wife to explain his actions. Now he knows that it did not reach them and that they are likely dead. This leads him with no purpose and causes him to go crazy with huge ramifications told later in the story. If you couldn't tell, I really love this album!
Exploring Heavy Metal and all its glory. Heavy Metal is often misunderstood and thought to be just a bunch of guys banging and screaming when in fact it can be extremely thoughtful, intelligent, and sincere. Expect some throw-down-head-banging, chill mood metal, and gloomy death metal that you're probably not going to hear on the radio. On the weekends we'll mix things up with a Weekend Wildcard and an Easy Like Sunday Morning Track to get you over your hangover!
