In honor of Opeth's new album dropping today, today's Metal Track is the title track from that album, Sorceress. The band seems to still be heading down the progressive rock path away from their death metal roots. I just ordered it on vinyl but haven't had a chance to listen to it all the way through.
I've enjoyed a lot of these progressive rock track they've been putting our bu I'm hoping Akerfeldt will get the itch to record a death metal album again one of these days.
Exploring Heavy Metal and all its glory. Heavy Metal is often misunderstood and thought to be just a bunch of guys banging and screaming when in fact it can be extremely thoughtful, intelligent, and sincere. Expect some throw-down-head-banging, chill mood metal, and gloomy death metal that you're probably not going to hear on the radio. On the weekends we'll mix things up with a Weekend Wildcard and an Easy Like Sunday Morning Track to get you over your hangover!

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Third Day of a Seven Day Binge
We've only reached the third day...
Of a seven day binge
I can already see your name disintegrating from my lips
Today's Metal Track is Third Day of a Seven Day Binge by Marilyn Manson. This is off of his 2015 album Pale Emperor which is one of the best albums he has released. I love this track. Those chill guitar chords and had Manson's usual haunting vocals.

In Memory: Cliff Burton - 30 Years Later
Today marks 30 years since Cliff Burton was taken from us in a bus accident during the middle of the night in Sweden. The band was on tour for their legendary album Master of Puppets.
Cliff was a creative force within the band and fans are only left to wonder what the band would have been capable of if he was still alive today. His phenomenal writing and bass playing really shine on tracks such as For Whom the Bell Tolls, Orion, and his solo track Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth). He was so good on the bass that when James and Lars first heard him at a show, they went to see who was playing guitar only to find out that the sound was coming from Burton's bass.
In honor of Cliff, today's Metal Track is a collection of bass solos taken from the 1987 VHS Cliff 'Em All. My brother probably has this VHS sitting around his house somewhere. I believe it was later released on DVD.
RIP Cliff!

Scott's Instrumental Metal Track of the Day - Seriosity by Cloudkicker (Featuring Intronaut)
Today's Instrumental Metal Track is Seriosity by Cloudkicker. This is taken from Ben's live performance with Intronaut in 2014 in Arlington, TX but the song was originally released in 2008 on his album The Map is Not the Territory. Ben doesn't normally play live shows so that is what makes this performance special.

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track - Hold Me Now by Thompson Twins
Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is Hold Me Now by Thompson Twins. This is off of their 1984 album Into the Gap.
The song was a major hit which actually became a problem for them. Alannah Currie said that their managers and the record company put a lot of pressure on them to write another song like Hold Me Now but they couldn't find the formula to create another one and that upset some of them.

Weekend Wildcard - You Dropped a Bomb on Me by The Gap Band
This Weekend's Wildcard is You Dropped a Bomb on Me by The Gap Band. This funky track is off of their 1982 album The Gap Band IV. The band centered around the three Wilson brothers Charlie, Ronnie, and Robert.
After the attacks on 9/11, this song was placed on Clear Channel's list of songs with questionable lyrics. They didn't ban the songs but noted that stations may not want to play them.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Aces High by Iron Maiden
Run, live to fly, fly to live. Aces high!
Today's Metal Track is a classic by Iron Maiden. This is Aces High off of their 1984 album Powerslave. The song is about the Battle of Britain in 1940 which was the first military battle to be fought with aircraft only. The lyrics are from the perspective of a British Royal Air Force Pilot who was fighting against the German Luftwaffe.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - I Just Want You by Ozzy Osbourne
Today's Metal Track is I Just Want You by Ozzy Osbourne. This is off of his 1995 album Ozzmosis. This is his only album to feature former Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler, drummer Deen Castronovo and keyboardist Rick Wakeman. Steve Vai was suppose to be the guitarist on the album but was later replaced by Zakk.
I didn't remember this (probably because I was 7) but Ozzy announced in 1991 that he was retiring following the release of No More Tears. 25 years later and he is still going at it.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Backwards Marathon by Between the Buried and Me
Today's Metal Track is Backwards Marathon by Between the Buried and Me. This is off of their 2005 album Alaska. The vocals in the first two minutes will be a little harsh for most people but it calms down after that into a awesome melodic section that is the signature of the song.
It's raining...

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Helpless by Diamond Head
Today's Metal Track is a classic from Diamond Head. This is Helpless off of their debut 1980 album Lightning to the Nations. Metallica must have really been influenced by this album because they covered 4 of its 7 songs. They originally covered it as the opening track off on the $5.98 E.P. Garage Days Re-Revisited which came out in 1987 and later on their 2001 double album Garage Inc.
Some may say that Metallica benefited from the work of Diamond Head. While they did, I read a recent article in Guitar World where Diamond Head members are grateful and still receiving royalties which allow them to make music now.
Here is the Metallica version which I think destroys. I love the tone of the guitars and Hetfield's voice is fantastic.

Scott's Instrumental Metal Track of the Day - Made of Tears by Joe Satriani
Today's Instrumental Metal Track is Made of Tears by Joe Satriani. This is off of his 2006 album Super Colossal. Another impressive performance by Satch. Starting at the 4:35 is about 3 minutes of just nonstop godlike playing. Make sure you are watching at the 5:50 mark to see him play with his teeth!
First YouTube Comment: "What's the old saying about Satchmo? His hair moved to his arms to be closer to the music? Can't blame it."

Weekend Wildcard - Don't Get 2 Close (2 My Fantasy) by Ween
I was talking with one of my colleagues about music recently and he told me to check out Ween. I have heard about them numerous times over the years but had never listened to them. They are a alt rock duo who go by their stage names of Dean and Gene Ween.
This Weekend's Wildcard is Don't Get 2 Close (2 My Fantasy) off of their 1992 major label debut Pure Guava. The first thing that stuck out to me was how much they sounding like David Bowie. Thanks to Richie Field for the recommendation.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - I'm Broken by Pantera
It's Pantera Time!!!
Today's Metal Track is I'm Broken off of their 1994 album Far Beyond Driven. The breakdown in this song is so metal even horses head bang uncontrollably when it's blasted in the wild (See Below).
"One day we all will die, a cliched fact of life.
Force fed to make us heed."
Most Metal Horse Ever

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Lost Viking by Dethklok
Lost... But still... We Ride!
Search... Until.. We Die!
Today's Metal Track is the tale of five vikings who are on their way to fight a battle but once they are far away they realized they've left their map at home. So they keep riding and riding searching for their battle. They come upon a witch and because they were too embarrassed to tell them they were lost they lied and said that they ride for hire. She offers them a map but they are too proud and continue on riding and remain lost. LOL
I tell people all the time how much Dethklok and Amon Amarth sound alike. This is the best example of that. It sounds very similar to Pursuit of Vikings.

About time for some more Viking Metal. Today's Metal Track is At Dawn's First Light by Swedish metal band Amon Amarth. This is off of their album Jomsviking which was released earlier this year.
Pretty brutal and awesome video. I like the accumulation of arrows in the band through out the video.

Easy Like Sunday Morning Track - Only the Lonely by The Motels
We lie about each other's drinks
We live without each other
Thinking what anyone would do
Without me and you
It's like I told you
Only the lonely can play
Today's Easy Like Sunday Morning Track is Only the Lonely by The Motels. Not to be confused with the Roy Orbison hit from 1960, this is off of the band's 1982 album All For One.

Weekend Wilcard - Gimme Shelter by Rolling Stones
By request from Liz, this Weekend's Wildcard is Gimme Shelter by the Rolling Stones. After she requested this, I realized that I have not posted any Stones tracks yet so it's about time we fixed that. She happened to pick one of my favorite Stones tracks so it worked out great.
This is the opening track off of their 1969 album Let it Bleed. Merry Clayton provides powerful vocals on this track. I know this song deserves more recognition but I'm about to head out for the night. Enjoy.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Walk With Me in Hell by Lamb of God
I remember the first time I listened to today's Metal Track. Back in college, Walden Raines burned me the latest Lamb of God album titled Sacrament. I was driving around in Mission Valley parking lot and I popped it into the CD player and this song came on. I was hooked immediately.

Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Living After Midnight by Judas Priest
I took the city about 1 AM... loaded, loaded
Today's Metal Track is Living After Midnight by Judas Priest. This is off of their landmark 1980 album British Steel. This might be the catchiest song they have ever released.
As a night owl myself, I can identify with this song!
Living after midnight, rockin' to the dawn!

Today's Metal Track is From the Pinnacle to the Pit by Ghost. This is off of the Swedish band's most recent album Meliora which was just released last year.
The band members have maintained anonymity so far. The musicians are referred to as Nameless Ghouls and the lead singer is named Papa Emeritus. On this album Papa Emeritus II is replaced on vocals by Papa Emeritus III. But these are actually the same person.

Not really metal but Jason Bowman showed me this tonight and it's too awesome not to share. Today's track is a cover of Jimi Hendrix's Voodoo Child by Luna.
Scott's Metal Track of the Day - Prison Sex by Tool
Do unto others
What has been done to you
Today's Metal Track is Prison Sex by Tool. This is off of their second major-label album Undertow which was released in 1993.
I remember jamming to this song on the way to Canada with Jeremy and Brandon back in college.
From Maynard: "This song is about recognizing, identifying, the cycle of abuse within yourself. That's the first step of the process: realization; identifying. The next step is to work through it. But this song is about the first step in the process, which is recognizing."
